“Big rooms, great stay, good breakfast”
Reviewed November 22, 2010

Des Moines is a central location for all of my college friends. We chose the Staybridge Suites because they are close to the Jordan Creek Mall and we received an excellent rate. Check-in was a breeze and we were shocked at how big the rooms were when we opened the door. We had a group of 13 so it was great to have all the space. The kitchen was great with a few utensils to use for the food we brought. It was also great to have the big refrigerator. We never saw anyone else on our floor except our group which made for a nice quiet and relaxing weekend for us. The TVs were great and the furniture was nice. The breakfast definitely exceeded our groups expectations. Plenty to eat and it was hot. The pool is open 24 hours as well. This is nice for adults who usually like to stay up a little later. The fire alarm did go off at 12:30AM on Saturday night and although it was a false alarm we had 2 kids in our group and they had to be woken up because of the alarm. Great place to stay, will definitely be stayin again.

I always like to stay at Staybridge Suites because they are accomodating, breakfast is good, and the rooms are always clean. Great hotel.

A few weeks in advance for a 3 night, quiet getaway, we reserved 1 bdrm suite on upper floor, lakeview, non-smoking--warned them it would be a late arrival. However, we arrived before 7 p.m. but were told there were no more 'non-smoking' rooms. We reminded them that we had requested non-smoking. They replied that there were no more to be had. They said it hadn't been smoked in for weeks and the room had just been "ionized" today. We said ok and went to the room. The smoke smell was so strong we could hardly breathe. Back to the front desk requesting another room - they 'produced' an alternative 1st floor room but it was a handicap studio suite. Needing a place to spend the night we took it but were so disappointed, we couldn't relax. Drove around looking for other options - finally decided to make the best of it and stayed in the room. The a/c did not totally cool the room and we even used a fan we had with us.

At bedtime the smoke detector started beeping every 15 seconds. Tried repeatedly to call the front desk - always a busy signal - so husband got dressed and went out to get help. She said, "here's a battery, get on a chair and replace it". Thankfully we weren't 'handicaped' and my husband is a fix-anything man. But for the life of us, he could not get the thing to open or come off - he was about ready to yank it off the ceiling, when it just stopped beeping. Had a restless, warm night. We felt the front desk response was totally impolite and unprofessional to ask a guest to replace a high ceiling fixture.

Next morning we packed up everything, took some to the car and the rest to the front desk and requested another room. While we were gone during the day, they came up with a 1 bdrm suite on the top floor but a parking lot view. We were happy to be out of the handicap studio.

Breakfast is 'full' but not top quality and disappointing. It was not well stocked, we had to ask for syrup, hot drink, silverware. Usually before the breakfst time was 1/2 up, many things were gone.

The suite was relatively clean but there was dust, bugs and cooked on debris on several pans. Either people rarely used the kitchen pans or the housecleaning staff had not run them through the dishwasher.

The suite was comfortable and spacious and bed comfortable. We would probably stay there again but would make several calls to verify our reservation requests.

We were grandparents traveling with a ten year old grandaughter to a family reunion in the midwest. We stayed at four different hotels and our night a Staybridge was the most disappointing. We booked a two room suite and were given a king studio with sleeper upon checkin because some of their guests "stayed over longer.". I was told it was the "same price." Had our computer with us and looked it up on line. Studio was less. When we presented the price and our priority card, we were given the lesser rate.

In the room, the sleeper was directly in front of the blowing air conditioner, so we all three ended up sleeping (not) in the king sized bed. It was not a good arrangement and very disappointing since I made the reservation in advance directly with the hotel and explained our need for two separate rooms which was promised. The first studio they gave us had a rusty bathtub and we had to be moved. They were very accomodating for this.

On the plus side, it was quiet, given there were sports teams there, the rooms were clean and nicely decorated with granite countertops and cherry wood cabinets. Breakfast was adequate, nice location and view of the lake. However, all of this did not make up for the inconvenience of not getting the type of room we needed and we will probably not stay there again. It is a nice hotel, just did not meet our needs and was not a good travel experience for us.

My wife travels for work so my 1 year old daughter and I usually come with her. We usually spend at least one week out of every month in a hotel. That being said, we spend some time in the room as well as the pool and at the breakfast bar. So my wife is here on business but my daughter and I are here on vacation! We originally came to Des Moines and checked into the Candlewood next door. Having stayed in Candlewood hotels before we thought we would enjoy this property as well. We were wrong so we packed up and came to the SpringHill Suites which are next door. Wow, I should have booked this instead of the Candlewood! The rooms are bigger, nicer, newer, have marble counters, flat screen tvs, jacuzzi tubs, and the list goes on and on. This room cost us $10 more a night but is worth it just for the free breakfast.

My family and I had just moved up from Florida to Nebraska for my job and we had spent days loading, driving, and unloading a rental truck just to jump back in to our car and drive 6+ hours to Des Moines for my job orientation the following day. We were tired, stressed out, and ready for some long over due rest and relaxation. I had never heard of Staybridge before until my job told me that is where I was staying. I really didn't know what to expect, so I didn't have high hopes. When we arrived late that evening, we were impressed right away. The service at the desk was quick, friendly, and very helpful. We went up to the room and were even more impressed. I had never stayed in a hotel as reasonably priced as this one was that was this nice before. The room felt warm and inviting, like a home away from home. The bed was comfortable and invigorating. The entire room was clean and comfortable. I was very impressed with the breakfast in the morning, I was expecting cold cereal and packaged muffins. I even enjoyed the free drinks at the end of a couple of long days of orientation. We were very pleased and felt very satisfied with the service and accommodations. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.
