Description: Nestling in the picturesque North Downs its hard to believe that Maidstone is only a stones throw away from Thurnams Black Horse Inn. Looking from the outside like the most traditional pub in Britain white washed, tile hung, sash windowed, sign swinging in the breeze inside will come as no great shock. In winter youll find a roaring fire in the imposing brick fireplace, dried hops drape from the ceiling and antiquey dark wood is in abundance. In summer diners can head outside to a paradise of shadey pergolas, ponds and green lawn or eat in the conservatory. Homegrown produce is key in a sophisticated menu which combines traditionalism with contemporary dining with impressive results.

2 weeks ago we met friends for an evening meal at the Black Horse, this was their first time and as we had been before we strongly recomended it.
it seemed to be one of the hottest days this year so we had an aperitif outside and soaked up the evening sun, great location semi rural but still close to drive.
the staff were very attentive and the food considering how busy the restaurant was prompt and very enjoyable.
nothing was to much trouble and when we asked to move later in the evening as the restaurant was very warm this was accomodated.
all in all a good night out.

Just found this pub on an internet search & thought the pic looked nice so booked up for lunch the same day. Sat Nav sent us to the wrong place but with good directions from them when I telephoned we soon found it. First impressions were that it was in a nice location, very welcoming & well kept. We entered the bar & was greeted very warmly by the bartender, offered a drink & then taken to our table at the back in the conservatory. It is a beautifully old & attractive pub with cosy armchairs & a lovely atmosphere. Our table in the lovely bright conservatory was in front of a large window that folds open which was gorgeous looking out onto a seated garden area with lovely ganging baskets & window boxes. I found all the staff very attentive & friendly & the good superb. We have found a gem of a place & will be back soon as we want to try the Sunday lunch.... Great place :-))

We have visited the Blackhourse on a number of occasions and always found the food to be really nice. We visited this time on a Sunday, four of us had various starters and mains and all was well presented and tasted great. The service was good, but when it is busy you do need to be patient. Overall a nice meal and we will be returning again soon.

I found the meal to be extremely average, the Roast Beef was well cooked but the seasonal vegetables were warm and raw. Add this to the high final bill I will not be returning any time soon. Having said that, the starter was lovely....
