“Perfect place for meeting girlfriends for lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

I have eaten here several times and have not been disappointed once. They have a limited menu of sandwiches, soups, and salads plus they offer mouth watering desserts. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The tables and chairs are all wooden and are different sizes and nothing matches. It is very homey and a perfect place for relaxing with your friends. They offer some outside seating and have a room for a large group.

“Java and lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

We visit our aunt and uncle in Iowa City a couple of times a year and always make a trip over to Swisher for lunch at the Kava House. Food is down home, sandwich and homemade soup daily specials in a quaint old general store setting. There's not much else in Swisher, but the Kava House has got to be the shining star in that town. They also feature wines from the nearby Cedar Ridge winery which are very good. That winery is on the way back to Iowa City and well worth the stop for a little taste testing

“Great find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

While in Cedar Rapids for several days in June, and after reading all the positive reviews in TripAdvisor, we took the short drive south to Swisher and the Kava House for an early dinner. We are glad we did! The building, originally constructed around 1906, was extensively remodeled by the Kava's after purchasing the building in 2007. The building interior and exterior have been beautifully restored. The atmosphere is an eclectic mix of turn-of-the-century furniture and decorations, which makes browsing around the small gift shop even more interesting.

The restaurant menu consists of fresh salads, soups and sandwiches. Our party enjoyed the walnut cranberry summer salad and the granny gobbler sandwich (sliced turkey, cheese, apple slices and apple butter), along with fresh fruit. Everything was excellent! From the gift shop we purchased a bottle of wine from a local vineyard and some fresh ground coffee - and we can't wait to try both.

Our party of four gives the Kava House four enthusiastic thumbs up, and we will stop again if we're in the area in the future! Thank you, Kava's, for the very pleasant evening meal!

“Homemade everything!”

This little cafe is well worth the drive from Iowa City. The hosts are so friendly. We have never had bad food here. No dinners except one blue light special on Saturdays. But sandwiches, salads and desserts are great!

“Worth the drive!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

Swisher, Ia is a slightly wide spot just off I-380 between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. Kava House is in an old restored hardware store. Mostly soup, sandwichs, sweet rolls and coffee the quality is excellent and the service very pleasant. A great lunch stop and worth the extra drive.
