“Overpriced”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

We decided to visit Okoboji at the spur of the moment. 4 days before arrival, I called several hotels that were closer to town, but everything was booked. Polaris was having their annual motorcycle rally, and they had reserved most of the rooms in the area. We defaulted to the Ramada. Two floors and no elevator. Hubby had recently had knee surgery and we were on the 2nd floor. Inconvenient, but not a deal-breaker. Room was clean and modern, nothing special --but $180/night???? I asked for any available discounts -- AARP, AAA, Ramada Rewards??? -- nothing. For a teeny, tiny town, they sure charge big city prices!

Room Tip: This hotel is next to a car dealership, with a corn(?) field behind it. It's at the intersectio...

MinneapolisMutti,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We always appreciate reviews to help us better our customer service. We apologize we fell short of your expectations for our property. August is a very busy time for our area which is why rates are high. We keep our rates comparable with the other hotels in the area. We begin our off season the third week of September and prices are lower then. Are you a member of the Wyndham Rewards program? You can earn points for your stays. It is easy and free to sign up. Thank you again for your review. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

This was a last minute trip so we did not have reservations. We first went to the AmericInn and were disappointed with the lack of friendly customer service there so we chose to drive to the Ramada instead. Though we have stayed at other Ramadas before and were very disappointed, it made us hesitate to come here. However we were more than pleasantly surprised.
Though the price was higher than we expected to pay, we learned that it was standard for the Lakes Region. This is the cleanest hotel that my family and I have stayed at in a long time. The rooms were nicely furnished and nice and cool when we arrived from a long hot car trip. The rooms were extremely clean, and the room we had was really spacious. With 2 beds and a fold out couch so everyone had a comfortable place to sleep.
We were greeted by the friendliest front desk staff. Ty working when we first checked in and helped my family get settled and helped us find a nice restaurant to dine on our first nights stay. The housekeepers during our stay were extremely friendly and super helpful to make our stay more comfortable. When we left Chelsea helped us make our check out quick and smooth. Now that's great customer service!!!
We will be coming back to the lakes again next summer, and Ramada will be the place we choose.

Room Tip: If you are a family I suggest the room with the fold out couch, though the price is higher it is wor...

We stayed here for 2 nights during a family visit. I was actually quite pleasantly surprised with the property. The rooms were both clean and modern, with flat-screen tvs, free in-room wifi, and both a mini-fridge and microwave (important details for us, as we had a toddler with us). The staff were really accommodating and friendly, and the breakfast was your average free hotel breakfast - waffle maker, yogurt, donuts, biscuits and gravy, fruit, and cold cereal. Nothing too exciting, but certainly substantial enough.

I believe this property recently went to all non-smoking rooms, since I remember seeing smoking rooms offered on a prior trip to Okoboji. However, it's worth mentioning that a few family members who were also staying at this hotel reported that their rooms still smelled like cigarette smoke, and the room across the hall from me was being "aired out" while we were there for similar reasons. That said, they were clearly taking care of this issue (they moved our family to another room after mentioning the smoke).

All in all, this hotel is a safe bet. Not the Ritz, but not a bad hotel, either.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 2nd floor - walls, floors and ceilings are thin.

Two reasons we chose this hotel - it was a great halfway point to our destination and it has a hot tub and pool. It's off season for the area, so the rate was very reasonable. The beds and pillows were super comfy. We learned that Okiboji means "place of rest" ... and that it was!

I stayed here by myself while traveling for business. Women traveling alone need to be aware of their lodging choices- I felt safe from the moment I stepped in the door ! The hotel was clean and quiet and the breakfast was more than adequate! The bed was comfortable. Staff asked me each time I encountered them if there was anything they could do for me- now THAT is service! I will definitely stay here again !

Hey it's a Ramada Inn. Nothing special. Small in-door pool. Small breakfasts. Centrally located. Clean rooms. Near shipping, restaurants, and lakes.
