The hotel is in desperate need of some attention: There were stains on lamp shades and on the box spring (the visible edge, I didn't pick up the mattress or anything), and the counter by the sink had large pieces of laminate missing. The sink was chipped as well. Our room had a dispenser for cups, but there were no cups. However, a family member's room did have cups stocked. The clock was plugged in, but not set, and was blinking when we entered the room. I'm not sure why this was not set by housekeeping. The slider door to the deck was very dirty. I would think the standard would be to clean it before every guest, but it's apparent that is not being done. The tv was a tube tv, 19 inch I believe, and it was a poor picture. We also had trouble with cell phone reception on the room.

I realize this hotel was not expensive, but it was overall a very poor experience.

Had ourgrand children with us at Sunrise Cove at Village West on a timeshare exchange. A lot of family activities. Indoor and outdoor swiming pools, indoor and outdoor mini-golf. Daily movies in their little theater. Small but enjoyable lake beach.
Our unit was converted from two adjoining motel type rooms into one uint with bedroom, kitchen/dining/living room area with sofa bed. Two bathrooms was really good with grand kids. Full kitchen saves money so we had more to spend at other attractions around the lakes. We grilled steaks outside one evening as well.
The sofa bed was not comfortable for adults but it worked OK for grand kids.
The restaurant was only open on select evenings but the meals we had were very good.

Room Tip: "One Bedroom" units are all these converted motel style rooms. "Split foyer" st...

This is our third time of staying at this property. It is on the west side of Lake Okoboji. The room we had was a studio unit with a full kitchen. There were only two of us so it was all we really needed. It is basically a little bigger than a normal hotel room with a kitchen. The rooms are pretty outdated.

The resort is situated on a private beach and depending on the room you get you may be facing the water. Ours was about a 4 minute walk to the water. It has boat docking, a dock to dive off or just sit out and relax, a boat/jet ski rental, and 2 restaurants. There is also a game room, indoor and outdoor mini golf, rentals (bike, tennis, basketball, movies). It has a boat that gives tours of the lake but all three times that we have stayed, it has not been in service. I called this time and they said that their Captain had gotten sick and they werre unable to find another. There is nothing free at this place. Everything is going to cost you a little extra especially if you are going to do any type of rentals. Most places I have stayed at have free bike, racquet, basketball rentals but not here.

Unless you have a boat or other water transportation, you will be driving your car to get anywhere. Not that it is a long ways, but to get to the bar/restaurant areas you are looking at a 10-15 minute drive. If you are just looking to relax or get a boat rental, its all right here at the resort. I would guess that for families with small kids, this would be a good choice since it has the beach. For couples, it's ok but there are better places, closer to things to do. I saw one review that said that if the lake wasn't here, this place would be closed in one season. Very true!

Room Tip: If you rent a unit at Sunrise Cove, get a top floor to try and avoid some noise from people next to...

What a wonderful place to go and relax! So much to do for the entire family. You have the lake which offers boats to rent, beach to lay out at and swim in. The resort offer so many activities for the family. There's indoor/outdoor mini golf, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, arcade filled with games, movie theater and so much more. The units are very nice and the staff is friendly and helpful. Arnold's Amusement is a nice place to visit during your stay too! It's just a short drive away via boat or car. Can't wait to return and relax again to get away from the busy east coast.

Room Tip: All units are within walking distance!

I have been going to the lakes all my life and have stayed many places. The tattooed man at the front desk set it off from the beginning. Total jerk. The room was moldy, believe the reviews. The window air unit clearly couldn't keep up and it wasn't that humid outside. Our clothes felt wet when you put them on. This place was probably nice in 1980. There hasn't been any updating of the facility. The guys working the dock and boat house were nice. Everyone else no. I shook my head everyday thinking about the money I was overspending. I love Okoboji but will not be back to Village West. If you took the lake away this place would be closed in one season. The two stars are just because it is on west lake.

Room Tip: Go anywhere else.

We come here every year and enjoy family and the lake. But don't let your kids run around with money in their pockets at this resort. My 11 year old wandered into "A Stone's Throw" gift shop on the property and brought a shredded t-shirt up to the check out counter not paying attention to the price. She had buyer's remorse -- $20 (that was 50% off!) but at 11 did not have the confidence to speak up . I found my daughter in the store looking sticker-shocked and sad as she had spent her own money. I asked if she could please get her cash back. The sales ladies were completely intractable and said they would not give her her money back. She had not even left the store with the cheap merchandise for crying out loud. They said she could get something else, but everything in that store is ridiculously over priced.

I have read all the bad reviews about Village West and was leary of spending a week there but we had a great time. Our one bedroom unit was very nice and clean with a full kitchen, great air conditioning (since it was over 100 degrees the week we were there), a good sized bedroom and nice living room. We shared a washer and dryer with one other unit on our floor. Yes, they give you 2 rolls of toilet paper for the week but they gave us another roll when we asked. The people at the front desk were very friendly giving us directions to local places. It is a fun place for families with kids as they have various activities on site for families including movies, miniature golf, an arcade and daily arts and crafts. The beach is clean and there are a number of eating places, fine dining and casual. I would recommend staying here and would come back again.

Room Tip: There are no elevators but only two floors in our building. So if climbing stairs is hard for you, g...
