“Pass on it as a wedding reception site”
Reviewed August 5, 2010

Attended my nieces wedding on the hottest day in June. The Crystal Ballroom while beautiful and spacious was hotter inside then outside. Supposedly the air was broken. I suspect it is inadequate. The display of the food buffet was beautiful but the food just average.

Thank goodness the air conditioning in the room was functioning properly. The room was clean and we all slept well.

Two of my colleagues and I stayed here for two nights while we are in town for a conferance. We are not impressed. While I will give them the fact that they are remodeling, it doesn't seem to be a quality remodel. One of the pictures I uploaded showed shoddy workmenship in our updated room. The bathroom was dirty when we arrived, the hotels simply appeared to have been folded up, not cleaned. There was a bunch of glitter and a fake eye lash on the carpet so I'm assuming it had not been cleaned. We will be back in Sioux City next week and will be staying at a different hotel. The workers were nice, but the hotel is just not nice, especially for the fact that it is not a cheap hotel.

When we arrived, I was suprised at the make-shift reception desk due to the construction. But after quick and friendly service, I was very happy. That happiness continued when I saw the remodeled room, that was well decorated. The beds were very comfortable, and I had no complaints. I didn't use the indoor pool, but it looked clean and inviting. There was free parking all around this downtown hotel because it was a weekend. It was also nice that there was a movie theater across the street, and several restaurants very close in the downtown area. I would return to this hotel with no hesitation. The rates were reasonable, too. We even had a view of the river area from our room.

We stayed at the Clarion New Year's eve and day. The service we had was excellent. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The food served in the restraunt was very good. The rooms were clean. The hotel is in need of repair and remodeling.

Recently in town for a conference and the hotel was the worst part of the visit. Unhelpful staff; no answer (repeatedly) when calling for a wake up call. Slowest elevators ever with no stairs as an option to the lobby/street level. Horrible pool area. Smelly room; not sure of what. Horrible shower. So gross, I couldn't bring myself to use it. What's up with the 6' total headroom and makeshift shower surround? Curtains that didn't open except with extreme tugging. Visible stains on the bedspread and sticky spots on the carpet. On and on and on...The only good thing was the sheets appeared to be clean and the bed was not uncomfortable so sleep was possible. Would not ever recommend.

Booked this hotel on Priceline for $44. It would have been worth it for twice that!

I grew up in Sioux City, so I know this property was originally a Hilton. This place is still up to Hilton standards. The room was large, the king size bed was phenomenal. The decorations were modern and tasteful. Free wireless internet. This place is very quiet and comfortable.

I asked the desk a couple of questions after we checked in and they were very helpful. There is free parking in the city parking garage right next to the hotel. That isn't advertised, but don't be afraid to pull into the garage. The hotel validates the ticket. They even have reserved spots for hotel guests.

  • Liked — Well maintained, comfortable room, free parking.
  • Disliked — Skyway next to hotel smelled of cigarette smoke

I stayed here for a wedding which was just a "skywalk" away.

This hotel is "older" and hasn't been kept up very well. There was mold on our bathroom ceiling and around the tub. The carpet was warn pretty well, however, I couldn't hear anyone in the rooms around us so the walls must be think.

There are many good places to eat within walking distance and parking is free at a parking garage across the street.

I probably wouldn't stay here again unless I needed to be in downtown Sioux City and wanted to use the "Skywalk." However, if you want a cheap place to stay and don't mind an older hotel, this place is just fine.
