I have had to stay here several times in the past year, and my experience has been more or less the same each time. This hotel has probably seen better days, and is currently shabby and just does not look good. I think the housekeeping staff cleans as well as they can, but it just looks old. The front desk staff have always been pleasant and easy to work with. The location, while conveniently close to downtown Sioux City, is right next to train tracks (literally just across the parking lot), and the noise of the trains woke me up frequently during the night. The lighting of the room is poor (2 bedside lights, 1 small lamp, and the entry/bathroom lights), and the age/condition of the carpet and furniture do not help the appearance. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are functional, but I certainly would not recommend this hotel unless absolutely necessary.

Not sure what others expect from any hotel in this area, and I would agree that when comparing to other areas such as Boston, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, and Hawaii, I too would be disappointed. But one needs to remember, Sioux City, IA is NOT Boston, Philly, Vegas or Hawaii--it is on the Missouri River, neighboring Nebraska. This is FARM country, not exactly a high ranking vacation hot spot. That being said, we stay here everytime we come out to visit relatives within a 100 mile radius. The location is convenient, just off the highway and just a short drive to Nebraska or South Dakata. A free hot breakfast is available every morning (yes it is the same every morning, but it is much more than any continental breakfast offered at high-end hotels in vacation hotspots); the rooms are comfortable and clean (many have small refrigerators); the bathrooms are roomy; there is an excerise area as well as an outdoor pool. On top of this, the nightly rates are reasonable, especially when utilizing any discounts such as AAA. Equally important is the friendliness of the staff, whom I've always found to be very accomadating and courteous. Perhaps others start with a bad attitude and reap what they sow. I would definately reccommend the Ramada Sioux City for anyone looking for a reasonable place to stay. I've only rated my sleep quality as "average" as there is no bed (or pillow) like home.
