“Comfort food”

My husband loves comfort food, and this place fills the bill. It is well prepared. The fresh squeezed orange juice is delightful. Servings are huge - a little too much so at times.

“Okay Food, Distracted Server”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2011

We had our Thanksgiving dinner at Black Bear in Sioux City because we were on the road and had nowhere to cook anything for ourselves. Two of us ordered the traditional turkey dinner, and one ordered the prime rib dinner. The turkey dinner was okay...actually, the turkey seemed under-done and was kind of lukewarm. The mashed potatoes and stuffing were very good, though. The verdict on the prime rib was that it was very tasty. Portions here are gigantic, so none of us could finish our dinners. Our meals came with a complimentary peppermint chocolate pudding, which was nice, though we were too full to eat much of it.

About the server... Well, she had to come back to our table several times to ask us over and over again what we had ordered. It seemed almost like she was having memory problems. She served us the wrong salads and drinks. Plus, she was a little too "friendly" and chatty with one of the males in our party. Perhaps it was just the busy-ness of the holiday? Anyway, the service wasn't the best we've had.

I saw some other people ordering breakfast foods at this restaurant, and clearly, breakfast is what this place does best. Two people could easily split one of their large, delicious-looking breakfasts and walk out stuffed.

I would be willing to give Black Bear another try.
