“Overland lift”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

Graham and Carol of Base camp tasmania were lifesavers. We really really appreciated the lift to the start of the overland track, dropping our bags off, the fuel and the shop stop. The great company made the trip go fast and Graham was a wealth on knowledge about all things hiking in Tassie. Thanks to you we had an amazing hike. We can't wait to come back and explore more of Tassie and will definitely call on you again in the future!

Earlier this month, while staying in Hobart, I went on three private day hikes with Graham McLean, the owner/operator of Tasmanian Wilderness Experiences Base Camp Tasmania (www.twe.travel). I highly recommend you contact Graham if you're interested in memorable hiking experiences.

His hikes are highly organized and well planned. He picks you up at your hotel and drops you off at the end of day. You need only to show up -- he and his team bring all the gear you may need in any climate. They prepare morning tea and snacks, as well as a delicious lunch to keep you energized in the afternoon.

Graham offers a variety of hikes and he and his team know the hiking areas so well they can adjust/customize the hikes based on the day's weather and your travel schedule. Graham also does a great job of pointing out beautiful flowers and trees, as well as birds and other wildlife, throughout the hike. If you appreciate active vacations, nature, and spectacular views, and want to spend your vacation time in the company of friendly, interesting, local people, then schedule some hiking (day or multi-day camping) with Graham.

I travel frequently (solo) and always try to fit in guided hikes. Graham and his team's service was by far the best I've ever experienced.

Graham provides really excellent services for walkers and outdoors people. His HQ at Base Camp is truly inspirational and you must see the array of rescued animals. Graham and his partner Carol organised my walk on The Overland Track, providing wonderful hospitality, transport to and from the track and a BBQ to celebrate my achievement! Nothing was too much trouble and everything professionally handled with attention to detail. Note: All walkers and outdoors people should look no further than Base Camp Tasmania for all their needs and logistic when enjoying adventures on the island. Thank you.

A group of 8 bush walkers from Qld needed assistance to get us about Tassie to do a series of extended difficult independent walks. Graham and his staff picked us up and dropped us off at our isolated destinations without a hassle. He was exceptionally reliable, punctual and flexible and great value. I will use again and recommend his service to all my walking fiends. Many thanks

I recently completed a four day walk in the Walls of Jerusalem area, organised by Tasmanian Wilderness Experiences, and stayed before and after the walk at Base Camp Tasmania. Base Camp provides very comfortable accommodation with a beautiful outlook and native animals to enjoy. Thanks to Graham for ensuring my needs regarding gluten free food were met both at the camp and whilst on the walk.
Kate, our guide for the walk, ensured we enjoyed the beauty of the national park-she was attentive to our needs, knowledgeable about the area and choose an interesting circuit which allowed us to camp in areas not frequented by others. I can recommend both Base Camp Tasmania and Tasmanian Wilderness Experiences if you are wanting a "hassle-free" holiday enjoying Tasmania's natural beauty.

Base camp Tasmania is the home ground for Tasmanian Wilderness Experience, who did a fantastic job getting our gear together for the overland track.
we stayed there after having finished walking this fantastic 6-day walk.

Apart from the excellent service by picking us up at lake st clair, we enjoyed staying at the base camp for only one night.
Beautiful surroundings, great wildlife and for us the perfect getaway before going back into the "real" world in Hobart.
The dormitory has very comfortable beds and perfect facilities for laundry, BBQ (which can be prepared upon request), and just chilling out on one of the balconies overlooking the valley.

I highly recommend this place and Tasmanian Wilderness Experience.

Don't hesitate, just book it!!

The folks at base camp checked our gear and understood our passion for Mt Anne. "How did you find out about it?" They set us up with a great guide and took us out and dropped us off after a lovely night saying goodbye to civilisation. Strangely, we were propelled into Tasmanian culture. Stefan our guide gently guided us where to walk, that is, straight through the mud, he directed our eyes to the Eastern Arthurs and shared our passion with gear. Base camp sold us some food to take and picked us up after a great time had by all. Stefan made my stove look a bit amateurish and had to use his boots as a ladder for my partner to descend from Mt Eliza down, but he did not patronise us and we really appreciated the intimate indulgence of sharing our walk with such an experienced walker. We learned heaps. Thankyou to Base Camp Tasmania and Stefan Hampel, our guide. We had the best four days on Mt Anne. Base Camp are people who know walking and adventure in Tassie and will sought out what you want to do with their contacts and knowhow. They also care for Wires animals and inspire you to be kinder to the planet, more caring, get fit and to be skilful in the wilderness, but do not come across like boy scout leaders, they assume you can do, keep an eye on what you can't and support you in having a good time. Four nights at base camp is better than 10 nights in an international hotel in Bali, I reckon.

Room Tip: Lots of possible combinations for accomodation and support and meals.
