Historic but completely renovated hotel in small town with every room representing a different immigrant group that came to Perry, Iowa. Each room was meticulously researched and designed, often going overseas for authentic furniture and artifacts. We were in the Dutch room, and it had tiles and furniture and a nook that felt like Holland in the 18th century. Next to it was the Japanese room, which was totally Zen. That's the one I'm booking next time. Some rooms are like sleeping in a museum. Other rooms are themed around work, such as mining, woodworking, agriculture. Some others honor local figures. Great restaurant on site, and lively bar. Lovely lobby and an interesting 'library' off of the lobby for relaxing and reading.
This is a very, very unique property. Fitness center, no pool, but hot tub, sauna and steam rooms. Old style bowling alley in the basement.
Perry is on a number of bike trails, so a popular stop for cyclists.
Not much going on in town, shops open more weekends, so great to really relax.
Bike shop adjacent to rent bikes to hit the trails for a few hours.More
