This historic hotel has been totally updated and has still maintained its unique personality. The decor was next to none and we were totally impressed with the detail and artwork.

We ate every meal in the restaurant and were always impressed. The tenderloin was delicious and my husband couldn't even eat all his meatballs! A first!

We were lucky enough to stay in the Bill Bell room. A room dedicated and decorated to a great tuba player. Came complete with a full size tuba in the room. Also impressive was the huge bathroom and especially the huge shower. Well maintained and very clean. Snooping through the hotel, we found a sauna, steam room, bowling alley (!!!) and a spa. Right from check in to check out we were well looked after. Check out the garden attached and gates.

Room Tip: We stayed in the William Bell room, but we looked at the Louis Armstrong suite. Both fantastic and reasonably priced

Just returned from a weekend in Perry and was so glad to see the hotel being cared for again. The new owners are great and work hard at making sure you are comfortable and happy. Service is great, restaurant is fabulous, try the Pattee Pain Perdu - 2 slices of La Mie Baguette soaked in custard, rolled in almonds and topped with fresh berry compote! To die for breakfast !!! Bar was hopping and there was even music by the fireside. Check out the website for pictures of the rooms and menu and activities - www.hotelpattee.com. 20 minutes west of Des Moines so easy to do historic East Des Moines and Valley Junction. While there you must stop in at Pattee variety, formally Ben Franklin. Owners Jay and Jan Pattee have added a frame shop and a lower level fabric and crafts. You will find all kinds of home decor and cute clothing and jewelry. Check out Mary Rose just down the street, another cute shop. Go and have fun.

Room Tip: They are all great but if you have kids ask for the family suite, adorable !

Thanks for your great Review! And your detailed description of the Pattee Pain Perdu - 2 slices of La Mie Baguette soaked in custard. That is also my personal favorite. Thanks again. We hope to see you again in 2014. Have a Happy Holiday and a great 2014.

Put this place on your bucket list!

Stayed overnite at the Pattee 12/14/13. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. A festive atmosphere, a restaurant, banquet rooms, lounge and hotel filled with people having a great time -- this was one happenin place!

Had two meals in the restaurant -- both were excellent. Good food, good service and VERY reasonable prices! The pumpkin cheesecake in and of itself made the trip worthwhile!

The hotel ...room was spotless and SO unique. Stayed in the Louis Armstrong suite and absolutely loved it. Massive amount of room, a real fireplace, a fabulous bath, wonderful furnishings and decor.

Features we did not have time to use included a spa with oversized whirlpool, sauna and steam room, and a 2 lane bowling alley!

James Brown billed himself as the hardest working man in show business. I truly believe that Jay Hartz, owner and manager of the Pattee, is the hardest working man in the hospitality industry.

He's committed to making the Pattee a destination of choice -- and his commitment shows in his work ethic, his expectations for staff, his interest in spending time talking with and getting feedback from guests, etc.

He's a great guy and the Hotel Pattee is a great place. Here's my bottom line -- an overnite stay at a nice hotel is an overnite stay. An overnite stay at the Pattee is an experience.

We love the place, and we encourage others to take it out for a test drive. We think you'll love it too!

Room Tip: Every room is a different theme with different decor. This is not the cheap or weird kind of themed hotel room -- each is classy and so well done!

My wife and I have visited the Hotel Pattee many times since it first opened. After a few "challenging" years, we heard they had new local owners and wanted to give it another try...and we are sure glad we did! The property was neat and clean and our room, the Gustav Stickley Room, was back to its original great condition. We also ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant and had two great experiences. We celebrated my daughter's birthday there and the restaurant staff found candles for us to use, which was a very nice touch. The prices are very reasonable and we had great service. We saw the new owner several times as well and he was very welcoming.

Jay's personal attention showed an owner's commitment to customer service in the dining room and at front desk. He will be very successful in bringing the hotel back to greatness! The dining room dinner and breakfast menu gave a variety of choices. The service at each meal was great and attentive. The unique decor in our room was very special and provided a bit of pictorial history. The location of the hotel was very convenient for our visit to Perry.
