Stopped here before leaving Pella. Got some great goodies to take home. The bakery was very busy with other conference attendees and they were very patient and helpful to everyone!

The Jaarsma Bakery had so many goodies from which to choose that we had a hard time making up our minds! They have wonderful pastries, delicious homemade breads, and yummy cookies! I would highly recommend you visit them if you are in Pella!

This place was incredible. I am sure it's a national landmark. Everything in this bakery is yummy. Don't go there hungry. It will cost you more. Lol.

...and be prepared to hear the Jaarsma employees patiently explain (perhaps for their 100th time that day, if a Saturday) *why* they only make/sell the letter "S"!

Oh! By all means, *don't* forget to also get a few chunks of chocolate almond bark when you drop in, too -- it makes great souvenirs (if you can keep yourself from eating the bark on the way back home, that is!).

You could always get "dessert" here, then stop by another place in town to get sandwiches for a quick "picnic" over at Lake Red Rock! (Or stop by Smokey Row for coffee-to-go -- please see my SR review, as well as the Vermeer Windmill review.)

In case you or a friend/family member back home like to collect blue and white porcelain objects (or... Delft china, in particular), then... you're in luck, since they also sell mugs, and miniature windmills at Jaarsma's. (They will also box up such "breakables" for you, at no additional charge -- great customer service.)

Dislike: Although I've travelled the world, only in Pella at Jaarsma's do they *require* that you show your driver's license before taking your credit card. Be forewarned!!! (I have had to go back to my car to get it, while they put the cash register in "waiting" mode... Not good when there's a loooong line on a Saturday morning!) They have probably had some unfortunate experiences, but... not *everyone* shows up with cash-in-hand! Perhaps they might consider putting a small sign on one of their windows (visible to customers, as the customers approach the bakery), "Credit cards only accepted with state photo ID". But that's just "me"!

pssst! Surprise your friends/co-workers back home (if you live within 5-6 hours, and have reasonably good weather for keeping baked goods in your vehicle): Get them a large box of... ***Goat Legs***!!! They'll love 'em!

This Dutch Bakery is wonderful! The Dutch Letters are to die for, if you love almond!! Traditionally they are made year-round as more of a strip and only made in the "S" letter shape around the Christmas holidays...but you get "S" shape here year-round! Love that!
