Pros: clean and good sized rooms, friendly staff, plenty of parking, homey decor. Breakfast was good. There is an indoor pool and spa.

Cons: expensive for the type of property ($159 +tax) standard king, annoying piped music in the public areas and entry, noisy aircon, cheap fittings in the bathroom and shower, lots of plastic plates and cutlery at breakfast (can't staff wash dishes anymore?). We would have liked to have used the pool and spa, but it was overrun with families and kids for a private function. There was alot of noise from this until 11pm.

Thank you for being our guest at the AmericInn of Okoboji and taking the time to offer us your comments regarding your stay with us. Our staff takes pride in offering clean comfortable accommodations and friendly service. We are pleased to see that this was your experience with us. Our free Hot, home-style breakfast is a great value and we are glad that you enjoyed it. We are sorry that you did not have the opportunity to enjoy our indoor pool and spa. On occasion, dependent on other guests that may be staying at the hotel, our pool area can be a popular place! Thank you again for choosing to stay with us and we look forward to seeing you again in Okoboji soon.

Arrived on a Sunday afternoon - room was clean and cool - as it was very, very warm outside - it was nice to walk into a cool room. A large lobby area hosts the continential breakfast, which, unfortunatley we did not take advantage of (slept in). Lobby has a fireplace and great couches and chairs. Room was quiet and very comfortable. Would stay again!!

When we checked in we were able to check in 1/2 early, which is always helpful. Our room was so clean we felt no one had stayed there before us - ever!!!!! we were give a room at the far end of the hall - close to an extrance and with a lovely patio area facing the neighboring golf course. we wish it was right on the lake, but its worth the drive to the lakes to stay here. we have always been happy with this Americinn!!!!!!!

Room Tip: if you can request room 133 - at teh end of the hall and quiet!!!!! close to an entrance and a quiet...

It's an OK hotel, but it has some odd quirks that travelers with families might not appreciate. The suites are overpriced.

Our family had never been to Okoboji or Arnolds Park before. So instead of renting a condo for a week like most families do in the Okoboji area, we wanted to dip our toe into the water and stay some nights in what seemed to be the nicest, or highest-rated, hotel in the area. We booked a suite that, with tax, was $240 a night during the week.

There were a number of quirks right off the bat.

Despite being a 2 story hotel, it has no elevator. If you book a suite, you're hauling all your stuff up and stairs because that's where the suites are located.

Some of the suites face the lobby and breakfast atrium area. They're not down a hallway. Sound easily bleeds into the suites.

They were playing "elevator music" at high volume in the lobby and pool area. It was older pop songs done in an instrumental, easy-listening arrangement. My kids could hear this in the front part of the suite and they had trouble getting to sleep the first night. The second night, I called the front desk and they lowered the volume. When we visited the pool area, the first night, the volume of the music was overpowering.

When we pulled out the sofa bed for the kids, it had been a long time since anybody had vacuumed underneath.

After sundown, lights were automatically activated on our private deck. There is no switch to turn this off. Lots of bugs swarmed the deck and made it impossible to hang out. I later put my hand over a sock and unscrewed the bulbs during our stay.

Despite being a smoke-free facility, the people next door to us decided to use their private deck as their own smoking lounge.

We expected the view to be that of a golf course. Instead, we saw a giant drab brown metal building.

There was a constant rushing sound from the vents off the bathroom while we were in bed.

The arrangement of the bathroom in our suite was odd. The toilet and shower were in a room in the middle of the suite, but there was no vent to turn on (even though we heard a rushing air sound while in bed). Most of the time, in hotels, bathrooms are located toward the front of rooms, so this was unusual. The sink was out in the open in the middle of the suite.

That's it for the quirks and oddities.

Otherwise, the facility was clean, the king-sized bed was very comfy, and the pillows were excellent. When we needed extra towels we got them at the front desk. The pool area was clean, lots of towels stocked. The spa and sauna worked. Staff were attentive.

Breakfast was good, although my kids found the egg product to be off-putting. They looked more like yellow pancakes. I guess they were that way for the biscuits. The make-your-own waffles were excellent.

This hotel is located about a mile and a half north of Arnolds Park on the main drag. It's got a McDonald's and Casey's General Store nearby.

I'd compare this hotel to a Drury Inn or maybe a really nice Super 8, but it has too many odd things to rate it as high as a Drury. It's really closer to a Super 8.

At $240 a night, including tax, our suite was way overpriced, especially for a non-weekend, non-holiday stay. I would expect to pay that in Chicago.

It just wasn't what we thought it would be at that price point. It's probably a really good facility for a single person or an older couple without children. If you're a golfer or just coming to the Okoboji area for a few nights to visit friends or family, it'll do.

Now that we're familiar with the Okoboji area and have learned about condo rentals in and around the lakes, we'll probably do something like that in the future if we decide to return.

Room Tip: Avoid suites that face the lobby. No elevator.

Thank you for taking the time to offer us your comments regarding your experience with us at the AmericInn of Okoboji. We are pleased to see that you found the waffles at our complementary breakfast to be excellent, the pool area clean, or beds comfy and the staff attentive to your needs. We apologize we fell short of your expectations regarding the general arrangement and location of our 2 room suites. Unfortunately, our two story hotel does not offer an elevator. We understand sometimes this can be an inconvenience to carry your luggage up the stairs and we are always happy to assist you. Okoboji is a seasonal resort destination causing the price of a room to fluctuate based on the time of year. Our prices are set to be comparable to other hotels in our area offering similar amenities. We appreciate you offering us your concerns regarding areas of improvement as well as letting us know the things that you enjoyed about your stay with us. Thank you again, and we wish you happy travels in your future!

When we stayed there was a group of construction workers staying on our floor. They propped the room doors open and were yelling across the hall to each other and just generally being an annoyance. After just one complaint, the staff moved us to a wonderful suite. It was a great spring getaway.

Room Tip: Rooms on ground level seem quieter.
