The Barefoot Bar is located on the shore of East Lake Okoboji and is the nearest thing to a key west bar located in the middle of a rural state like Iowa! There are tables over looking the lake and also overlooking the entertainment areas. Many tables are under Tiki type shelters, umbrellas or palm trees. Wait persons bring all beverages but you have to go to a self service area for food. Both the drinks and the food are average...but that is not what people come for....it is the people watching, dancing and having a fun time. Most people come by boat and therefore are dressed in swim attire. The Barefoot Bar maintains several long docks for people to park their boat while on shore. There is a very small beach, but also a nice play area for children. During the peak season there is usually entertainment on Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evenings. The bar is also located within a marina with gas and other boat equipment for sale. It is a very unique setting for rural Iowa!

Smoking is allowed everywhere in this bar except for a couple tables way off to the side. Music at night is great, scenery is awesome and drinks are average priced for a tourist area. Very nice waitresses and bartenders. It would be nice to get a glass of water for free. Water is only served in bottles for a price of $1.50. However, there is no cover charge so that is really nice. Our problem was with others smoking around us when we chose to sit near the band area. The Iowa smoke free law states that smoking shall not be allowed in any entertainment venue, or where there is seating (whether or not you are outdoors). Well, there was seating, and there was entertainment and they still allowed smoking. I spoke to the waitress, the cop on duty and even the owner, who rudely told me to "go stand down by the dock if you don't like it!" after rolling his eyes. If you can stand smoking, go for it; if not, stay away because they clearly don't pay any attention to the law.

We walked in at 10:58, got a drink, barely sat down, then about 4 minutes later, the band quit, gas lights went off, and we were told to leave. There were about 5 tables who were still being served, and I said, "really?" and watched the scenery. I suppose it was our bad for coming so late, but really if you are closing up, kick everyone out. I suppose the "high rollers" thought they were special. But I do know one thing, I won't be back. Also, there was a road block of cops in front of the place, it was a great place to get picked up, and I don't mean in a good way.

Fun location, palm trees (yes in Iowa), great lake views, regular live entertainment. Great food, great service... Probably Iowa's most popular night spot during the summer weekends. And they sell boats. Take one of the cruise boats on a fun evening tour of the lakes.

The Barefoot Bar at Parks Marina is a marvel of entrepreneurship. Most Marinas make their money on sales and service. This place sells a lot of boats for sure. But I view it as the Barefoot Bar, which, oh-by-the-way has Parks Marina attached to it! The owner knows how to create an environment where people want to come have fun. Years ago he got the idea that people might want to hang out on the beach and have a few drinks while watching boats being put in and out of the water. Brilliant! Add some sand, music, playground equipment, tiki huts and palm trees, a liquor license permit and voila, you have the Barefoot Bar. Come, relax, have a daiquiri, rum-runner or margarita in a funny cup. Oh yeah, they have some food, too!
