We've stayed at this motel twice now, in June of 2011 and last month in 2012. This is a railroad-sponsored motel, located at railroad hubs mainly for rail crews but it also caters to travelers,. This facility is conveniently located, well maintained, and reasonably priced. The breakfast-included rate is reasonable and the restaurant coupon is cashed at the next door Penny's Diner -- where the food is good and the portions a bit large.
The special feature of the motel is its focus on accommodating night crews with totally light-proof curtains and sound proof windows. They achieve this goal magnificently with DARK and QUIET rooms.
The 2-star decor includes a home-made wooden shelf for the microwave -- perfectly situated for average height users and a plain wood enclosure for the fridge -- which works very well. The king-sized beds are in excellent conditions and they provide blankets, avoiding those "fashionable" but pesky duvets -- most useful in wintertime Iowa, with theheat off or the windows open. All the lights are CFL's and the rooms are brightly lit if you need the light.
The single shortcoming of the motel is a fairly slow wireless internet connection but the signal is strong throughout the facility.
Bottom line, a great place to stay!

Room Tip: All the rooms are just fine. If you have luggage, ask for a ground floor room since there is no ele...

Everyone was really helpful! We really wanted to stay in Omaha, Ne to check things out for jobs and schools and such but they were all booked due to national baseball games. (which is ok). So we traveled to Blair, Ne and they were booked as well so the desk clerk at another hotel sent us to Missouri Valley, Iowa ( abt 20 miles away ) and said that they may have rooms. So we took our chances and went to Missouri Valley. I am so glad that we did ! We checked in checked our room over and gave it a go ahead. So we stayed for 2 nights and ate at their diner. I am so in love with their hashbrowns ! They are real potatoes and not fake ones like the people out west serve! We had chatted with the staff at the diner and they gave us some really awsome tips about Omaha and Iowa state. I asked them if they have Lightning bugs ( fireflies) and they said Yes. Our child has never seen one so we took her out to catch a few and let them go. She named one blinky. haha. Anywho The train wasn't noisey at all never heard it really. But it was all good for us ! Would we come back Yes !

Wonderful find. We had to come to town recently and we were suprised to find the Oak Tree Inn. The rooms were very quiet and clean. The staff was very friendly. We met friends there after a funeral. We asked if they had any place we could gather they took us to a meeting room and got us all coffee. Thank You So much we will return. KRW

Beware of making a reservation here. We made a reservation several days in advance and when we arrived after a long day of driving and ready to relax we were told they could not honor our reservation because they were fully booked. The reason was because some people came and "would not leave." Pretty lame excuse for not honoring our reservation.

What a welcomed surprise. We were very lucky to stumble upon the Oak Tree Inn. Check in was a bit different but works well. The staff is REMARKABLE. They took care of us from check in to check out. The diner was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Our children have severe food allergies so eating out is kind of scary for us. The manager made sure the staff was aware of our "special" circumstances and everyone did such a great job to keep our kids safe. I couldn't thank them enough for this. We had a wonderful stay and will be returning this winter and letting all of our friends know of this WONDERFUL place.

Room Tip: Cleanliness is always key.

This is a hotel ran by amateurs trying to look like professionals. The staff are friendly, polite and helpful enough but yet we still found them some what slow and lacking where service was concerned. Also the hotel is very close to the rail road and it kept us awake all night with a loud tooting and rumbling noise.

Penny's dinner look OK but the service was poor and the food questionable. The service was slow and they got the order wrong, we even had to ask for cutlery. We waited for over 20 minutes for our first course to arrive and when it did they served our main arrived with it, consequently our main went cold. Also my wife's main was supposed to have vegetables but came with one lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato.

We usually over look such problems but the noise from rail road track combined with the diner carry on finished us both off...We asked for another room facing away from the track, they obliged but the noise still went on. In the morning we were exhausted and short tempered!

Breakfast was back inside penny's,(oh joy), guess what... they'd ran out of cereals! Luckily eggs were in plentiful supply so we eat up left promptly.

Room Tip: If you sleep like a log choose a room facing away from the rail road. If you are a light sleeper try...
