I have stayed in hotels in spectacular locations, great history, courteous service, and amazing restaurants, but I have never stayed in a better hotel than the Historic Park Inn Hotel. After you check in, take time to explore the hotel. Every space is well thought out from the Ladies Parlor to the Law Library. Be sure and visit the Skylight Lounge while the sun is out. The stained glass ceiling is stunning. In the evening, start your night in the basement lounge. The drinks are fantastic, the bartenders are attentive, and the flatbread pizzas are great. Follow that up with dinner at the 1910 Grille where the food and service are five star. Is Mason City a place you would think to ever visit? Probably not, but the city has more than you think (including an art museum) and your visit to the only Frank Lloyd Wright hotel left in operation will be an experience you will never forget.

Room Tip: Request room 200. Available at the lowest rate with a great view of the Mason City square and beauti...

We stayed at the hotel for two nights with a group and used their facilities for meetings. The decor is a treat for anyone who loves Art Deco and Frank Lloyd Wright. The room was clean and also had unique decoration touches. We didn't take a tour, but had time to explore the nooks and various public areas tucked around each corner. This hotel has great service and amenities, but much more. If you enjoy getting away from the crowds and big chains, you will love it.

Room Tip: Our room had lots of windows but faced another wing, so we had to keep our shades closed.

Traveling from Duluth, Minnesota, to Kansas City, Missouri, we happened upon this special treat. This is the only Frank Lloyd Wright designed working hotel left. The staff is amazing. Every detail is attended to, they are so proud of ther beautiful property. The cost was similar to other chains in the area and there is absolutely no comparison. We dined at the 1910 Grille in the hotel last night and it was special and affordable. We will be asking this a regular stop on our way to visit our son.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Square.

Lovingly restored and tended by a caring staff, this hotel is definitely worth the trip. We stayed in the historic suite and soaked up period ambience with the tub filled and the TV off! Everyone who works there, from the front desk to the restaurant and housekeeping, bends over backwards to make customers happy. Our room was spotless and smelled great. Dinner at the 1910 Grill was well prepared and presented. The best part was being able to wander at will through a beautiful piece of history.

If you are traveling to Mason City this is by far the best hotel to stay at. I've been to Mason City over two dozen times for business and would usually stay at the Holiday Inn or similar hotel with a different moniker. This place was unique as it is the only Frank Lloyd Wright hotel in the world. The rooms and bathrooms are all updated, the lobby has a very cool vibe, free wifi and you would be mistaken to stay anywhere else. Its also located right in the heart of Mason City so you are close to everything. This is the kind of boutique hotel you would expect to find in a big city and it's even better because it's in Mason City.

One of the few hotels left that was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Anyone interested in FLW work should take the time to stay here. It is charming beyond belief. The lobby is classic FLW and the rooms all have the flavor of his ingenuity.

While there, try to take the tour(usually at 11:30 am). Jim, our docent, was remarkably thorough and knowledgeable about the property. i was especially impressed with the old bank building. It is quite beautiful.

The staff here was exceptional. Service was wonderful. Everything in our room was up to the highest standards. We stayed in the Historic Suite(#206). It is actually 2 former rooms combined into one suite, The rooms are quite small but very charming. I was told that room 300 is the largest room with 2 sides of the room being windows to the park across the street from the hotel.

Also see review for the 1910 Grill on Trip Advisor (located in the hotel).

Highly recommended!

Beautiful hotel. The breakfast left a lot to be desired and the furniture seemed a little cheap in the room but the rest of our stay was excellent. The historic features were really interesting and the food at the 1910 Grille was excellent.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Historic Park Inn Hotel, together with City National Bank, of Mason City Iowa were designed by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright as a dual purpose building and completed in 1910. The design greatly influenced architecture in Europe and is as striking today as it ever was. The Park Inn Hotel is the last Wright designed hotel in the world, and has undergone a nearly 20 million renovation; the restoration of the distinctive brick and terra-cotta façade as well as art glass windows has restored the Prairie School building to a functional hotel. The interior, while renovated into a contemporary hotel, has public areas and guest rooms restored as closely to Wright's design as possible. Art glass and much else designed by Wright remains. Public area furnishings are period-style and include reproduction Robie House Lights, reproductions of the Mercury statues Richard Bock and Wright designed for the bank, and reproductions of the barrel chairs Wright designed for the bank directors' room. We invite you to come and stay with us in the center of the many area attractions Mason City has to offer. ... more   less
