Sally was so generous, flexible, and accommodating with our "musical room" situation for our party of 7!!! The food is lovingly prepared and delicious! Walked to the Mason City Brewery, the Quarry, and Chop Restaurant... great location!

Stayed at the Decker House overnight on a last minute trip to IC for a funeral. Wished I could have stayed a bit longer and taken better advantage of the lovely house. Sally generously accommodated some of my last minute logistics issues. The price of the Decker House was better than those of local chain motels! Breakfast was great and the availability of extras like beer and soda is a nice added touch. I would love a family vacation booking the whole house, because the party room downstairs would be great for a family hangout. The Rose Room is lovely. Location was in the heart of a lovely historic district and neighboring residential area, making it a superb place for a run or walk (sidewalks, trails and quaint pedestrian bridges). I believe I could have had a free pass to a local Y but did not have time to take advantage.

A wonderful B&B and a wonderful hostess. Our one night stay in the midst of a hurried, cross-country drive left us wishing we could have stayed longer. Everything about this B&B was excellent. As a person with MCS (multiple chemical sensitivities,) I am always on guard for triggers - exposure to room fresheners, scented cleaning products, laundry detergents, etc. No worries at the Decker House. The home is immaculate and innkeeper, Sally, went the extra mile in different ways to be accommodating. She kindly washed all the quality linens in scent-free detergents before our arrival. The gourmet breakfast was delicious. You won't want to miss the "never-empty" cookie jar. This is a lovely place and we will detour on our next trip to be able to stay here.

My wife told me to give it as many +'s as possible. The room was clean and the shower was sparkling. The towels were luxurious (Jennifer Lopez) and the water was soft. The room was cozy. I wish we could have stayed more than one night!

A great innkeeper makes for a great stay, and Sally, whom I know only by her first name, because she's that personable, made our weekend visit everything we might want it to be. The Decker House is owned by a civic foundation, and she runs the inn for them. We were greeted warmly, she was helpful in every way, and contrary to one cranky recent review, the breakfasts both mornings were exceptional--eggs Mornay on Saturday, French toast with blueberry sauce on Sunday. Because the house is so old, she explained, the closets had to be sacrificed to build the modern bathroom -- but that really didn't pose a problem. Decker House is right around the corner from the Meredith Willson birthplace and the accompanying museum -- both of which we highly recommend, as well. Decker House is one of two great places to stay in Mason City and, for once, in an otherwise rather ordinary midsized Midwestern city, there should never be any reason for a visitor to have to resort to still another cookie-cutter lower-end franchise motel out on the highway as in so many other places. Explore and enjoy.

Stayed in this bed and breakfast for one night and I was not very impressed with the cleanliness -there was hair in the shower and I wondered when the last time they cleaned their floors as they had a black appearance to them. I also came across hair on the bedspread. Breakfast wasn't that great either as the quiche was half cooked. I think this bed and breakfast is a dying breed. The hostess Sally came across as very frazzled.

We stayed here for a small family gathering, and overall our stay was fantastic. I loved the location, which was within easy walking distance of great restaurants, the library, MacNider Art Museum, Meredith Willson museum, and everything downtown. The hosts were very welcoming, attentive, and flexible with everything about our stay. Breakfast each morning was something fresh and fantastic.

The best thing for us was that Decker House is kid-friendly, which many B&Bs are not. But I would not recommend staying there unless your kids are well behaved and will have adult supervision (that should go without saying, but you never know).

My only small gripe is that the upstairs rooms are on a single thermostat, and with the wildly fluctuating Iowa weather in the spring, it made it difficult to find a temperature setting that worked for everyone.

It is a wonderful place to stay, and we would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Unless you need the first-floor accessibility, I'd recommend any of the upstairs rooms first.
