“What a great relaxing vacation place”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

My wife and I decided to do a 2 days trip from Iowa City to the area of Pikes Peak and Effigy Mounds State parks. I found this B&B online and was amazed by the picture of the place just on the mighty Mississippi river. We were not disappointed when we came. What a great place to relax. The room had a direct out to a deck almost on the water with a great view of the river and the HWY 18 bridge connecting IA and WI.
The room was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The owners are the most charming and helpful people. It was great talking with them about the history of the place and their personal history. They also have a winery a block away and a bottle of wine was waiting for us when we arrived. We were asked to our wine preference when we did the reservation.
There is a feeling of lack of privacy as our room was next to the owners living room, but this feeling was overcome but the relaxing atmosphere.
Breakfast was great and you can see that the owners put some efforts into it.
Overall I would highly recommend this place.

The B&B was in a wonderful location right on the river. The inn keepers were very kind and accomodating. We joked it felt like we were staying at mom and dad's house. The exterior areas could use some attention and an overall decluttering would make a world of diffference. The space we occupied however was very clean and comfortable.

As stated in other reviews, the Halvorsons are lovely people and the food was interesting and good. However, we stayed in the house next door with 2 other couples and I couldn't believe that something in that condition could be rented out. The downstairs was completely cluttered with cooking utensils, a sink that had a greasy cooking grate soaking in it, boxes and misc personal supplies. It was dirty and completely unpresentable for guests. In addition, there was the train that went through at night and a bright street light that kept me awake. Those are not things the owners have control over, but they do need to clean up the place if they want business, in my opinion.

sertanly a place you just sleep at to get somewhere, totaly ok- but super dated, the bathroom reminded me about the scarymovie, Psycho. I think the soapbars also were from the 60s. Anyhow, the people there are very nice, and the price is really good! (50 dollar for 4 adults one night). The walls are soundproof, so you dont hear any of the trucks, as we thought we were going to.

It was quite an experience to stay at Eagles Landing B&B. Connie and Roger are most accommodating and friendly. Made us feel like we already knew them. The 4-course breakfasts will keep you full for most of the day. We stayed in a separate building on the top floor with a balcony view that was terrific. It was an A-line room and you needed to watch your head in the bathroom but we made do. Marquette is close to McGregar where most of the shopping is, the boat ride and in between is the Lady Luck casino (we had no luck at all). The place was cluttered as the owners also have the winery in town and work at both. We truly enjoyed their company - the wine is very good (you get a bottle every evening you stay there. My husband and I love trains so they were no problem for us. We ended up buying a dozen bottles of wine for our home. We did check out the rooms in the main house which we will probably choose in the future. any clutter will not bother us as we spend our time outside as much as possible. Lovely area.

Room Tip: We would suggest the Kathryn room.

Me and my fiancé just spent the weekend with such wonderful hosts. Have nothing bad to say about our experience. Yes trains are an issue but u have to expect that when you are staying in a town with a railroad history. The food was amazing and the breakfast conversations with the hosts and other guests as well. Room was very clean and had everything u could ask for. Connie and Roger were very nice and helpfull with any area information. We left and were already planning on when we would be back to stay there.

Judging by the other reviews, my guess is that over the past five years the Halvorson's have filled up their house with stuff and not kept up the separate sleeping building.

As others said, the bed spread was stained. The downstairs area was filled with clutter. It was too much of a touch of home to be renting this out. Additionally, the train does go by at night. From about midnight to 3am approximately 3-4 trains went by. Sometimes just idling for 15 minutes outside the b&b.

The nice touches that the Halvorson's made wouldn't make me stay there again. Down the road, the quaint town of Marquette offers a wide range of lodging - b&b's as well - that appear to be geared toward pleasing the traveler rather than letting you pay to experience a night at the Halvorson's.

It is worth stopping at their wine shop to taste the wines.
