Owner description: LeClaire, Iowa. It's a special place. A place where life on the land is intimately married to the flow of the waters. For centuries, people here have looked to the water for a sense of calm, a spirit of enjoyment and a connection to a heritage that is uniquely their own. That marriage of land and water is now embodied in a different kind of spirit. The Mississippi River Distilling Company hand craft Vodka, Gin, Whiskey, and Specialty Spirits slow and pure near the banks of the Mississippi River. Born from the finest grains, harvested just up the hill from the distillery. It’s a spirit born of land and water that draws each of us curiously back to a different era. Made for you, not for for the masses.

The tour lasted about 10 minutes and consisted of going into the other room to take a look at the equipment. It is a small operation, not much to see I guess. It was interesting, at the end you get to sample the spirits if you want. It was a little too much for me. I couldn't drink the straight stuff. It is a neat place, cool stuff to buy, but since the tour times are limited, I wouldn't rearrange my schedule to catch a tour. You can probably see the same stuff during regular business hours.

This is a small local operation but you will learn a lot about the distilling process, all in one room. You then get to taste some of their products. It was very interesting and you can of course buy what they are distilling. We enjoyed ourselves.

This distillery is in Le Claire, IA, and we paid it a visit in early August on our road trip on our way to Minnesota. We have been to distilleries in Scotland so it was nice to visit one on our vacation in the USA. It's open from 10 am but the tours start at noon. We joined one and we were quite a few on the tour. We were in one distilling room only and one of the owners talked about the company and the process. After we had the tasting in the tasting room. We tried three kinds of whisky, not much of each but it was enough. The tour was free of charge and there is a little gift shop as well.

Seems there are winerys popping up all over the place so it was a unique experience to see how hard liquor is made. Small tours (in a relative small room) make it so everyone can see/hear what is going on. Very informational! The required tasting/selling part of the tour was not high pressure and they even offered the kids some lemonade while they waited. One of the owners was working and chatted with him for a bit.

I've never toured a distillery before, and I found the explanation to be very interesting.

I also loved seeing how the building right on the river had been converted to a distillery. Also the tasting room was beautiful with reclaimed barnwood, a great view of the river, and local artists work rotated on the wall.

Our tour guide was knowledgable, friendly, and helped my wife who had never tried whiskey understand the different kinds.
