Owner description: LeClaire, Iowa. It's a special place. A place where life on the land is intimately married to the flow of the waters. For centuries, people here have looked to the water for a sense of calm, a spirit of enjoyment and a connection to a heritage that is uniquely their own. That marriage of land and water is now embodied in a different kind of spirit. The Mississippi River Distilling Company hand craft Vodka, Gin, Whiskey, and Specialty Spirits slow and pure near the banks of the Mississippi River. Born from the finest grains, harvested just up the hill from the distillery. It’s a spirit born of land and water that draws each of us curiously back to a different era. Made for you, not for for the masses.

The tour is interesting, and did I mention FREE? You don't have to walk far for the tour, and the owners give an interesting talk about making the spirits.

This trip was really fun. We did the tour and then taste tested the product. I am so impressed they use local grain. Their product is top notch. We will be going back to their monthly open houses to try other products as they become available. By the way, the tour is free and that is even better.

Two brothers started this business 2 years ago. A big investment in a beautiful new building. Samplings and a short, very intersting tour narrated by one of the owners. They have sold out of the vodka, bourbon, and whiskey on the first day of each new batch. Their focus on local suppliers and traceability is phenomenal. If you're in the area... stop at the Blue Iguana for a very nice Mexican meal, then walk down the sidewalk to the distillery. It's fun.

If you are in town in the afternoon this is a great place to spend a half hour. The tours are not walking but rather standing in the area where they do all of the distilling. The owner was very pleasant and I learned some interesting facts about small distilleries. The tour is free and you get to taste the product at the end.

This small distillery offers free tours. Two brothers own and operate the business. The Burchetts take great pride in their building and equipment, but most notable is their use of local grains and supplies. At the end of the tour visitors are given free samples of their spirits at a long copper topped bar. Their top shelf vodka is very smooth and silky. We also liked the coffee liquor made with coffee beans roasted in Des Moines. There's a small gift shop with souvenirs and bottles of Mississippi River Distilling Company liquor available. The tour only takes about 30 to 40 minutes, but it’s definitely one of the many fun things to do in this interesting little town.
