My wife and I along with another couple took a three hour drive from Kansas City to Knoxville, Iowa simply to get away from our busy life in the city. Our stay at the spring valley B&B was quite amazing and memorable. The spring valley B&B is located about 40 miles southeast of Des Moines, Iowa right in the middle of the farmland. Although there are three lovely rooms in the house, we chose to stay at the cabin and the bunkhouse located near the pond right behind the house. The main cabin is nicely equipped without compromising the natural feeling of a cabin. You can pull the car right next to the cabin, so it is lot easier to load and unload. Bunkhouse is mainly for the kids, but we choose to occupy this to be closer to the other couple. There is a BBQ pit and picnic table by the cabin and we had a lovely dinner overlooking the pond. We woke up to the sound of the birds in the morning. The Innkeepers, Arleen and Dwight served us a breakfast that we will never forget. Make sure to ask for the cream-brulee oat meal with bacon and biscuits on the side. It was a lovely best breakfast we have had in a while. Afterwards Dwight took us on a tour of his 700 + acre ranch in his ranger. It was quite unique. There were lots of deer freely roaming through the ranch and we saw a few wild turkeys along with a variety of birds. The stop at the circuit rider’s tomb from the 1800’s was quite remarkable. If you are a hiker, there are few hiking trails around the ranch. It was an amazing weekend getaway for us. What impressed us the most was not only the quiet and serene surrounding, but the warm hospitality of Arleen and Dwight. We were touched by their warmth and true Midwestern spirit that made us feel home. We are indeed planning a return trip next year.
