Description: The Kalona Brewing Company Restaurant grew out of the owner's love for wood-fired, thin crust pizza - alla Napolitana. We use local cherry wood to infuse the pizza with a delicious sweet smokeyness. Beyond the pizza menu, we have included food that pairs with our primary ingredient - beer! Appetizers, burgers, brats, spiced chicken, grilled cheese, and roasted Portabello mushrooom sandwiches, veggieburgers, and other special features from our chefs. We have soups and salads, plus we feature a weekly cheese plate highlighting local and regional specialties as well as classic imported cheeses, served with organic crackers. On tap you'll find an array of Kalona Brewing Company's fine craft beers, including seasonal and limited editions, choice guest craft brews and an assortment of microbrewed sodas. Lunch is served from 11 a.M.-5 P.M. And dinner from 5 p.M.-Close.

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013

Walked in and stood by the door for a while - there was a hostess stand but no hostess. The bartender was chatting with a couple of customers and, although he knew we came in, he never acknowledged us so we thought at that time of the day we could seat ourselves - no sign indicating to "wait to be seated" or "seat yourself". Sat on the other side of the place then the other patrons because of better seating choices. The other patrons all looked like they had been served. We did see one waiter - not sure he saw us - and he was close enough to the bartender for the bartender to let him know we came in but he didn't. Wish we could tell you about the food and beer.

“Great New Business”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2013

I have been hearing a new Brew Pub/Restaurant was going to be opening up in Kalona and was looking forward to it being a fan of micro brews. I found out it opened about a week ago, so we we went down for lunch on Saturday morning. Only being open for a week, the menu is still in the early stages and selections are limited, but will be increasing. Selection aside, the food was excellent and prepared with local ingredients. We shared an order of artichoke dip, then each had a cup of curried broccoli soup which was fantastic. We then had a salami, lettuce and tomato sandwich with blue cheese. The bread was excellent, the salami was a cut above the norm, tasty and not overly fatty. The tomatoes were not your bland restaurant fare but local heirloom tomatoes, perfectly ripe. All in all an excellent lunch. We shared a beer flight (smaller portions of four different beers) which was a great way to sample several without going overboard. Their dinner menu features burgers sandwiches and pizza, we look forward to going back. We usually travel for when I review, it's nice to do so and support a local business. They also have live music on weekends, and an outdoor beer garden, which we did not check out this trip.
