Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center - Des Moines

It’s sort of hidden and looks like a regular hotel on the outside, but there is more than meets the eye in the Stoney Creek Inn, Johnston, IA. I was impressed with its interior size and décor when I visited it for the first time. Our company chose the Stoney Creek Inn for our couples retreat this last weekend, and for the first time we received nothing but good comments about the hotel from our guests. Check in was a breeze, the staff was as helpful as they could be, and the catering was right on target. I liked the fact that they have adults only swim time at night and the indoor/outdoor pool was nice and warm. The best part about my stay was our room. We upgraded to a theme room and it was amazing. There was so much space that it felt like having an entire cabin in the woods to ourselves.

Room Tip: Go for more than a standard room

We have stayed here a number of times for the last 8 years as we have family in Des Moines. The rooms are excellent, nicely decorated and large. The staff is helpful and tries to accomodate your wishes. They have a nice breakfast for US hotels. Just beware that because of the nice pool facilities it can be overrun by kids. The breakfast room can be very crowded because of families with adults who show up barefoot in their pj's and let their kids run all over like it is their home. When we stayed in April there was a meeting of sheriffs police who were very loud at night by the pool. After they left, the hotel was quiet in the evening. Obviously the hotel is nice since we keep returning, but sometimes family groups who do not know how to act in a public space can be annoying.

2012 is our 3rd time using Stoney Creek Conference Center to hold our annual conference. Year after year the conference coordination staff have fulfilled every request and even anticipated some of our needs before we could even ask. The hotel is always cozy, comfortable, and clean. Conference attendees consistently comment on the great feel the conference center presents and the ease of transition between conference sessions, lunch, etc. We are already booked to use this conference center again next year!

We had a fabulous Valentines stay at Stoney Creek Inn. The staff was wonderful and very friendly. The atmosphere is fun and inviting....like a little Colorado ski lodge near Des Moines.

We plan on staying there again as a little staycation away from our home.

The Staff at the Des Moines Location was very friendly and helpful. We had a wide variety of requests during our conference and the Stoney Creek Staff in Des Moines helped us work through each one of them and there was very little they could not help us take of. The hotel was very clean and well taken care of. The food for our conference meals were amazing. Everything during the planning stage was perfect, from the initial visit a year before the conference, all the way to the last number change on the food for meals, the staff was very help, and contributed greatly to the success of the conference. Thanks Stoney Creek.

I will start by saying the hotel itself was beautiful, one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. MOST of the staff was great with the exception of one lady at the front desk who acted like she was annoyed with having to help guests. The suite we stayed in was supposed to sleep 5. 1 King bed and 1 pull out couch does not sleep 5 grown people. There is no way 3 adults can sleep on a pull out couch. I wish there would have been a pull out on the enclosed porch we had with the suite, that would have been perfect. Anyway, I went to the front desk and asked if they had rollaway beds and they said absolutely I will get one sent right up to you. BUT... there will be a $10 charge. It was either that or put one of us on the floor. With the amount of money we paid for the room I would think they would supply a rollaway bed if the room doesnt sleep as many people as it was booked for. One other thing to mention is that when we filled the in room jacuzzi things started floating in it. After further inspection we found that the jets had a large amount of soap scum/ dead skin buildup in them. That was pretty gross. The room was beautiful though, I don't know if we will stay there again though, being charged for the rollaway bed was a big turn off. We are local and take the kids to hotels alot for a change of scenery, we usually stay at the Ramada indoor water park but wanted someplace with less screaming kids. It would also be nice if they added another waffle maker. Their big seller for breakfast is to make your own belgiun waffles. We waited in line for 35 minutes to make our own breakfast. That was kind of crummy too.

Room Tip: Might not want to get an in room jacuzzi, the jets get soap scum/ dead skin build up in them.

We had a convention that was held at the Stoney Creek Inn, Des Moines, Iowa and they did a wonderful job of accommodating what we needed. Every time I ask for something they were there to get it done. They were always around and we had a great time.
Thanks for everything.
