Description: Owners and friends Naftaly Stramer and Ofer Sivan created Oasis the Falafel Joint in the summer of 2004. After meeting for lunch in downtown Iowa City the duo lamented that (at the time) falafel was nowhere to be found, and vowed to right this wrong. Naftaly had just left the tech industry and Ofer had just completed his degree in engineering – an unlikely starting place for what would become the world’s best hummus, falafel and fries.

“I ate the hummus with a spoon, it was that good.”
Reviewed March 22, 2013 via mobile

Their hummus is the best I've ever tasted, I literally at a side of it with nothing else but a spoon, it was that good.

Their pitas are great, but they are a distant second to their hummus.

The joint is a dump, small but clean. You wouldn't want to take a first date here.

“Best Hummus and Fries in town!”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

I use to work in downtown Iowa City and would eat at Oasis about twice a month. Pita, falafel, meet choices, fries, hummus- all excellent. They offer their hummus at the local Hyvee grocery store and it is AMAZING! I've sinced moved away and on multiple occasions have picked up a few containers of their hummus because I've yet to find anything half as good. Hands down the best french fries in town. I use to crave them- so stinkin good!
Always had really good service too- can't say enough good things. It's the perfect place for lunch when in Iowa City.

“The best "order at the cash register" restaurant around”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

As others have said, the hummus is absolutely the best. No one in Iowa City tries to make their own because you can't beat Oasis. Concerning the falafel and the rest of the menu, the spicing is magical. Just don't try to find out their recipes - they are top secret! Finally, their hummus is available in local grocery stores but you have to eat at the restaurant to let your taste buds have the full experience. Don't forget to add the toppings on the side table. You need several visits to develop your favorites.

“Best hummus in the world”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Oasis makes the best hummus I have ever had. Eat it with pita chips, with baby carrots, or with your finger, it is garlicky-perfect and delish. They sell it to go at the restaurant downtown, or in the local Hy-Vee grocery stores. It is always fresh and consistently good.

“Authentic Yummy”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

If you're a fan...don't miss Oasis Cafe...I have yet to try anything on the menu that isn't delicious!! The lentil soup is "to die for", and the falafel...amazing. A great lunch stop...they get you in and out. THey also do a fantastic catering "party pack" as well.
