I came with my sisters and a family friend to eat one evening. we were in town to visit relatives (we are from WI and one sister from Mpls, MN). Each of us was dissatisfied with the food...the Greek salad was pitiful...steaks were thin and dry...coffee weak....I could go on but won't...the waitress was friendly but she must have been new....not real attentive. We will never go there again until we hear it's under new management...we made sure to tell relatives that live in the area not to go eat at The Lodge.

We have new restaurnat operators who are making quite an impact on the local restaurant business. During the month of July, when the buffet was being served for the Winnebago-Itasca Travelors Grand National Rally, we had 1500 Winnebagos camped next door (nearly 5,000 people). Hundreds left saying this was the best buffet at the best prices they have ever experienced. No, its not Chicago, and no its not New York. But the restaurant provides excellent food and service at a fair price. I think the hundreds of happy people who have eaten here and left satisfied says a lot. Sadly, many who recommend that people eat elsewhere will not have the pleasure that I have observed in our customers nor hear their praise.

Hotel room was nice. They made special arrangements for us since we were traveling with a dog. Management went out of their way to stock the morning continental breakfast. The restaurant was exceptional. Food was always hot and plenty to choose from. Lot's of specials. I would recommend The Lodge if you are ever in this area.

This facility was the best in class when it was renovated from a personal home into The Lodge & was where we spend our wedding night in 1988. Unfortunately the decor today is very likely the same as 23 years ago and thus is very tired, worn and in desperate need of replacement. For example, the sheets on our bed actually had holes from excessive washing and the towels are almost threadbare. The light over the vanity in the bathroom was burned out and the staff was unable to replace. Without the light one of my contacts unfortunately was lost and never found. We were in a suite on the lower level that had at least 8 water stained ceiling tiles indicating old leaks that may or not still be causing damage and possibly growing mold.

Continental breakfast was very disappointing also as the selection was extremely limited - packaged muffins, white or wheat bread, cereal and fruit that was not ripe (bananas). Also the breakfast ends at 9A on Sunday so they can prepare for a buffet at 11! The breakfast layout is in a corner where only one guest can access and when asked about more juice were told that was all there was.

An alternative is the Super 8 on Hwy 69. Previously a smoking hotel, it is now non-smoking, clean and offers a continental breakfast that is much more satisfying. And the staff is pleasant and accommodating - unlike the staff at The Lodge.

No, the Lodge is not a Holiday Express nor is it a Super 8 on the highway. We are a totally different genre. It is a quaint Lodge with spacious suites (and really, we would hate to remove the wallpaper and paint the walls as we feel this would change the nature of the Lodge) beautiful wooded grounds and restful amibiance. 99 out of a hundred people are thrilled with their stay at the Lodge. Those wanting and expecting a Holiday Inn Express would, of course, be happier with a hotel on the interstate. Many thanks for giving us a try!

I travel the entire summer, staying in hotels every night. I found The Lodge online, liked the looks, called & spoke with Gwen, who was very helpful.
This place is such a breath of fresh air, (literally), is has a lot of charm, is clean, & cozy.
I drive a 60 ft. vehicle & was able to get in w/ out much problem, they have a lot for larger vehicles like mine.
They have a nice restaurant, walking paths & great views of a beautiful golf course.
I stayed in the detached wing, which was actually a former stables, when the Winnebago family owned it & was very comfortable. My room had a 4 poster bed, (very comfortable), a sliding door to a small patio with great views of the wooded area.
I highly recommend this peaceful hotel, you'll get some much more for the same price of a regular, bland, noisy hotel.
The owners are very kind & accommodating as well.

Room Tip: If your on a budget, book in the Stables.

The Lodge, you think: pine trees, loons and maybe log furniture. No, not here - it's scuzzy furniture and flowered wall paper circa 1980. We had a two room "suite", furniture all needs to go to the burn pile. The bed was equipped with some kind of latex or rubber sheet that crackled when you rolled over. The housekeeping was fair at best. Lower your expectations if you want to stay here - better yet, there is a brand new Holiday Inn Express in Mason City. Until The Lodge updates, stay away.

Yes... old and quaint but clean, spacious, restful, and off the highway. We are not a Holiday Inn Express. We are a Lodge located in a wooded area 1/8 mile off the highway. This is a good place to relax and get a good nights rest or spend a few days of "staycation". Those seeking a big city hotel experience may not be happy here. On the other hand you may be pleasantly surprised as are many who visit the Lodge for the first time. Most people who have discovered the Lodge stay here are very happy and choose the Lodge over other alternatives. Our greatest reward and satisfaction as Lodge owners are the comfort and joy that we see in the faces and hear in the comments of so very many, many of our customers. We love you all but can't be all things to all people. Again... we are an old, quaint hotel in the woods. Come and enjoy the quiet atmosphere, wooded paths, and good food at very reasonable prices.
