We rented the cabana for a week and Mango House when friends came for another week. It was perfect. Very mellow, fun surf, safe (you can leave your things on the beach), an enormous Yoga Shala where you can practice on the beach. If you wanted to leave it was an easy walk down the beach to other restaurants. We cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: The cabanas are great for a couple - romantic and fun to listen to the monkeys. Mango House is aweso...

My husband, my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law, our ten months old baby and I stayed at la Casa Mango. It was such a wonderful experience for us all! The sound of the crashing waves and wildlife surrounding us was wonderful, we heard the monkeys nearby early in the morning we thought they were in the living room! We are referring ECOVENAO to our friends and family in Canada, because our stay at La Casa Mango was lovely! <3

Room Tip: Make sure you reserve ahead of time during peak season!

Booked 4 nights and ended up staying 10 and would have stayed longer if we could have!! this is an amazing place to go and relax and get away from everything and just enjoy the peace and the surfing!! Stayed 2 nights in the east wing of mango house and wow, that is one amazing villa. would have loved to stay the whole time there but it was booked up. It has 2 floors, the bottom has the bathroom and storage type area and then the top floor is the bathroom with beautiful views out across the forest to the beach. Then in the middle of the house there is a beautiful kitchen, dining area and hammock, rocking chair lounge that you share with the other side of the house. It is great value for what you get and is like a villa, beautifully done and decorated,so clean.its simply stunning. then we moved to the Cabanas down by the river which is the other end of the scale to the villa, but loved it just as much. They are all natural cabins in the forest, half open with just a bed inside then a big balcony with table and chairs and a hammock. you share a bathroom with 1 other cabana, which is a composting toilet and open air shower. if you do not like nature this is not for you, there are lots of bugs and creatures around as you are right in the forest.we loved it, monkeys everday all around us, armidillo at night shuffling around outside, bats in the roof, but some people wouldnt!!! It is away from everything else so is quiet peacefull and beautiful. The area that is theirs on the beach is great, they have made sun beds fromm surfboards, there is a hammock cabana, a stunning yoga shala, all so nicely done and clean and well kept. The restaurant there is great, as the only place in the area they could overcharge and not care but it is the opposite, so reasonable for the food and portions you get and they really care. The kitchen that our cabana and the dorms and private rooms share is next to the restaurant and is the only negative thing about the place. it is not big enough, it is tiny especially for the amount of people that use it, the fridge was always full, mosty with old stuff as there is no kind of labelling system so there is stuff everywhere jammed in and a few times the fridge didnt even work which wasnt the best. Plus it is full of flies, which is obviously not their fault!
Bring all you supplies for cooking from pedasi or las tablas as there is nothing down here apart from a little mini market up the beach which has the basics.there are 2 other places to go to eat/drink which are down the beach by the main surf break, they are nice right on the beach and they have wifi (they charge $5 per 24hours at eco venao) but they are expensive and not really worth it, especially once youve eaten at eco venaos restaurant. Will be back for sure, this was a highlight of our trip, definatly in our top 3 places to stay in costa rica and panama.

Room Tip: There is something for everyone, from dorms, to private doubles, to cabanas to villas....all of them...

This place is rustic but awesome.

My husband and I headed here from Pedasi to spend the night. It is a lovely spot complete with Howler Monkeys, cats and dogs.

We stayed in a single room- I would HIGHLY suggest that you bring mosquito netting as it does not come with the room (coils are always good to have too) and be sure to check your fan is working as ours was not which made for a slightly uncomfortable night.

The place seems mostly filled with surfers so lots of people go to bed early but those staying up late are far enough away to not make any noise though you can hear the people in other rooms through the walls.

The restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. Or you can use the kitchen but bring supplies because there is not much around.

The hostel has it's own quick pathway to the beach which is lovely and pretty empty. Another little warning- stinging algae and those wonderful Jellyfish which really got my husband. I am not sure if it was just the season or the time of day though so you may want to check that out. I still liked the beach despite all this.

There are a couple of restaurants on the beach but the local ones that were there a couple of years ago are gone and have been replaced by ones owned by foreign investors so the prices are quite high. Better to eat at Venao.

This place is not fancy, it is rustic, but it is beautiful and friendly.

At the time of booking they were not set up for Paypal and wanted a bank transfer to secure a room. A bit tricky really, but perhaps this will change in the future.

My husband and I stayed at this resort almost two years ago, and we have been yearning to go back ever since. He had an illness which prevented us from doing so before now. We were scheduled to go back last year, but could bit since he's been undergoing treatments. Now, it seems he has recovered and we are about to spend our second anniversary there...if there's space available. We cannot wait!!!! The lodging is comfortable, clean and very peaceful. It's just how we like it.

Surfing for my husband is ideal with very consistent waves. Everything is just beautiful. The staff are also eager to help or just stay out of the way, if that's what you prefer. this is a no pressure place and a haven for us.

Room Tip: The Casitas offer air conditioning, but the other rooms do not. However, being in the mountains, thi...

a hostel, campsite, or private accommodation available. this place is not for the elderly, disabled, shy, or insect-phobic. it is not a hotel, but it is a lovely place with a friendly and weird staff and enjoyable residents. the restaurant is reasonable and very tasty. monkeys play in the surrounding trees, and make strange howling noises at night. a short walk to the beach. great for the surfing and backpacking crowd.

We booked a private room with shared bath but the room was so depressing that we upgraded to a private cabin with a bathroom.

The first option was cheap (US$25) and the cabin was only about US$50. But compared to the other places we stayed as we zigzagged around Panama, this was the worst value for our money.

Unless you are travelling alone and on a very tight budget, avoid the private rooms. The cabins do have ocean views from high on the hills as well as air conditioning, but they are a long hike upwards from the restaurant.

The restaurant did offer good food at more or less reasonable prices (i.e. they did not abuse their monopoly power) as well as wifi for $5 a day. However, the manager changed the password, then took off for the beach, leaving laptoppers unable to connect.

I would give special kudos to one of the hotel managers. My wife is terrified of frogs and went into a panic at the thought of hiking back to the cabin from the restaurant in the dark. The manager was nice enough to drive us up the hill at night to our cabin.

The beach is a short walk away. It is not a good tanning beach as it is full of crabs scurring about. It did look like a great beach for surfing though.

Dear Maskotas,
Before responding to your comments I must apologize for our very tardy response. I am sorry that the private room in our Eco Lodge was not to your liking. I must say it is perhaps a matter of taste as we do have recurring guests who are very happy with those rooms but I am pleased that you were able to find another one of our rooms satisfactory. In our experience most of our guests have found our lodging options superior to other options they have found in Panama, but again, this is certainly a matter of tastes, and I absolutely respect your opinion, and value your feedback. You may be interested to know we reinvest every cent back into our project.
Most of Eco Venao is indeed on hilly terrain, which is what allows our houses to afford the most stunning views of the bay of Playa Venao. Our model is one of shared use for our beachfront land - the guesthouses being positioned to afford maximum privacy and tranquility. We are very proud to be a low density project.
I am glad that you found the restaurant food good, and the prices reasonable, as we strive to provide affordable delicious food for our guests. Until very recently the only internet in the area was available through a satellite connection, which was very slow. Luckily now there are other options and we are happy to offer all our guests free internet connection.
It also pleases me to know that our staff was able to assist in sparing your wife the need to face frogs on the way back to your cabin.
Playa Venao is renowned as one of the best surfing beaches in Panama, the crabs and other little animals that live on the beach are part of the local ecosystem, which we pride ourselves in restoring and protecting. For tanning purposes we now have recycled surfboards as lounge chairs, which should avoid having to share your spot with crabs.

Kind Regards
