Met a friend from Wisconsin for an overnight stay and a round of golf at the The Meadows Golf Club in Asbury. A short drive from hotel. Great golf course for $45 - green fees + cart. We were there on a Tuesday early afternoon and had the course to ourselves. The hotel was very nice and quiet in the downtown area. Lots of shops within walking distance, even the casino is if you are interested. We had dinner at Crust and do not recommend. Next time we will try L May.

I am from North Carolina and visited Dubuque from Friday until Monday.I traveled with a friend who is from Dubuque. While he said I could stay with his relatives I decided to stay at the Hotel Julien Saturday and Sunday night. I have never visited Iowa and figured I could get a better perspective of Dubuque if I stayed in town. I stayed in a room on the third floor with a king sized bed. From the time I checked in until checkout the staff was extremely nice and professional. The room was one of the, if not THE, nicest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. The building itself is beautiful and the lobby matches the historical look of the exterior. The location on Main Street is close to entertainment and I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go. Someone at the front desk recommended a few restaurants and I ended up at Crust which was excellent. I will eat at the hotel restaurant on my next visit.
I highly recommend this hotel. I had a great time. Thank you Hotel Julien Staff...!!

Stayed at the Hotel Julien after checking reviews and remembering article read in Midwest Living magazine. Beautiful interior and friendly staff. The room was nicely appointed. Only downside was after checking the bed ( as I usually do) the mattress pad was was not very clean. After calling the front dest they sent housekeeping to change it. But the attendants were not really careful about the bedding as they removed it. I do not like sheets dragged on the floor. Room was quiet and the mattress very firm. The restaurant - Carolines was great. We had ice cream drinks first night, breakfast and a lunch. Excellent service and very good food.

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room- end of hallway

I booked the hotel Julien for one night on August 3rd. I booked a King Suite and it was the largest hotel room I've ever seen. Lovely comfy bed and bedding and over-sized bathroom. The living room has a sofa sleeper and the kitchen had a full size refrigerator. We stayed in room 802 and had a nice view of the River Museum, and port. Furnishings were quality. The location is within walking distance of good restaurants. The River Museum and a casino are located just 2 blocks from the hotel.
We had breakfast in Caroline's which is located in the lower level of the hotel. Good quality food and you probably will not be able to eat the large portions they serve.

The pool is large and nice and warm. They also have a spa located near the pool area.

They offer free parking which was very nice as well.

The lobby is spectacular with a wide staircase and natural woodwork. If you like history you will love this hotel

Room Tip: Booking rooms during the week are less expensive than on the weekends.

We enjoyed our stay at this historic hotel! The staff was obviously well-trained and accommodating. The rooms are a little smaller than today's typical hotel room, but pristine and pleasant. We ate breakfast at the restaurant downstairs, which we found to be lovely. The restaurant staff was also well-trained. It was nice to see a hotel that has been so tastefully refurbished.

My fourth stay over the past three years. Once again, great beds, quiet, clean, overall lovely ambience with the historical pictures of Dubuque decorating hallways and elevators. The hotel part is great but the restaurant-Caroline - needs some spiffing up for menu variety and overall food quality. The hotel is five stars; go to the restaurant only if you have to.

Lovely refurbished hotel in Downtown Dubuque! Many amenities including a spa and fabulous location. Quiet, very clean, and staff was super helpful and friendly. The only downside was the road construction in the area....
