We stayed one night in room 537. We lucked out because it was facing the Mississippi River although there was no balcony. Great views of the water, boats, and bridges! I would've been less impressed had we been facing the parking lot. Simple room, two double beds, and a large flat-screen TV. Negatives: paper thin walls allowed us to hear everything from the room next-door. Toilet didn't flush well and sink drained super slow. Some of the rooms have been recently remolded, so I'd like to try one of those out next time.
Only two small elevators in the hotel, but at least they were fast! You check-in on the second floor which is a little strange. Complimentary paper on Sunday morning. At certain times kids can participate in various arts/crafts activities for a nominal fee. Water park is small, but this isn't the Dells either. Water temp was decent, but the air was a little chilly unlike other indoor water parks we've been to. There was no humidity in the air. Tube slide was fun, but lazy river was one of the smallest I've seen. Main play structure was showing it's age with some interactive water features not working and rust showing in some areas. We used the water park as soon as it opened on Sunday morning (8:00), so it wasn't crowded at all. Lifeguards didn't interact with guests...no smiles or small talk. On the weekends, the water park is open until 10:00 pm, but on the day of check-out you are only allowed to use the water park until 1:00 pm. This worked out okay because we had to check-out of our room by 11:00. May want to bring your own beach towels because pool towels are not allowed to leave the water park area.
Once we arrived, we didn't need to take our car anywhere as food and entertainment were literally at our doorstep. Tony Roma's is attached to the hotel which was very convenient. They even serve breakfast! Who Knew?!? A ton of food, but prices are little steep. Would be hard for two adults to share an appetizer and order a main entrée at supper time for under $50. Diamond Jo's Casino is across the street, a wine bar and Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium are in close proximity to the hotel. Lovely little boardwalk along the river seems to be a popular choice for wedding photos!
If you can stay during the week, the room rates are much lower. You'll also avoid huge wedding parties. For over $200 a night for a standard room a continental breakfast or discount coupon to Tony Roma's would've been nice. Overall, couldn't beat the location and we'd be willing to come back again.
