“Nice View/Location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

We stayed one night in room 537. We lucked out because it was facing the Mississippi River although there was no balcony. Great views of the water, boats, and bridges! I would've been less impressed had we been facing the parking lot. Simple room, two double beds, and a large flat-screen TV. Negatives: paper thin walls allowed us to hear everything from the room next-door. Toilet didn't flush well and sink drained super slow. Some of the rooms have been recently remolded, so I'd like to try one of those out next time.

Only two small elevators in the hotel, but at least they were fast! You check-in on the second floor which is a little strange. Complimentary paper on Sunday morning. At certain times kids can participate in various arts/crafts activities for a nominal fee. Water park is small, but this isn't the Dells either. Water temp was decent, but the air was a little chilly unlike other indoor water parks we've been to. There was no humidity in the air. Tube slide was fun, but lazy river was one of the smallest I've seen. Main play structure was showing it's age with some interactive water features not working and rust showing in some areas. We used the water park as soon as it opened on Sunday morning (8:00), so it wasn't crowded at all. Lifeguards didn't interact with guests...no smiles or small talk. On the weekends, the water park is open until 10:00 pm, but on the day of check-out you are only allowed to use the water park until 1:00 pm. This worked out okay because we had to check-out of our room by 11:00. May want to bring your own beach towels because pool towels are not allowed to leave the water park area.

Once we arrived, we didn't need to take our car anywhere as food and entertainment were literally at our doorstep. Tony Roma's is attached to the hotel which was very convenient. They even serve breakfast! Who Knew?!? A ton of food, but prices are little steep. Would be hard for two adults to share an appetizer and order a main entrée at supper time for under $50. Diamond Jo's Casino is across the street, a wine bar and Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium are in close proximity to the hotel. Lovely little boardwalk along the river seems to be a popular choice for wedding photos!

If you can stay during the week, the room rates are much lower. You'll also avoid huge wedding parties. For over $200 a night for a standard room a continental breakfast or discount coupon to Tony Roma's would've been nice. Overall, couldn't beat the location and we'd be willing to come back again.

Room Tip: Ask for a remodled room facing the harbor and away from the elevators.

We stayed here as part of our Twilight River Cruise overnight. The hotel is beautiful, and our riverside room had an outstanding view of the Mississippi River & the thunderstorm the rolled through that evening. Our double queen room was clean & comfortable. One mattress was a bit worn on one side so it was not possible to sleep 2 people without 1 rolling into the other.

This hotel has a water park inside (obviously) so it has many kids running around and being quite loud. It was a last minute booking and I am fully aware what the hotel caters to. I'm sure it serves its purpose quite well for families. We are just a couple and picked this hotel because its within walking distance to Diamond Jo casino. The room was average, could of been cleaned a little better but not bad. Everyone at the front desk was super nice and accommodating, which goes a very long way. The only real complaint I have is they should add in room safes, I would assume quite a few people who stay here probably go to the casino so it would be nice to have a safe place to put things in the room. Overall if you have kids and want a decent hotel with a nice water park you really can't go wrong with this hotel. If you are looking for a quiet getaway this might not be your place.

Stayed here as part of the Twilight Riverboat Cruise and were quite satisfied. Good location, nice, clean rooms. We were able to walk to the casino and museum from hotel. Tony Roma restaurant on site.

We were just before peak season and got a great rate. We did not have kids with us so we can't comment on the water park. It is very close to the Miss. River Museum which is a must see (allow 3 hours) Behind the hotel is a very interesting historic tower that looks a bit like a silo. Go check it out. The hotel restaurant was good but there is a pub/grille right next door if you want something less formal. Breakfast is not included, which is typical for large hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for a room a few floors up and facing the river and bridge. That way you can watch the barges.

If you read any of my reviews you know that I don't sugar coat something. When I say this is a good place to stay you can believe it. Everything was extremely clean, the view of the Mississippi River was outstanding, all of the employees are friendly and responsive to any request and the food in their restaurant was really really good. We took a riverboat cruise and stayed here for 2 nights. I was so pleased when I first opened the door to our room to see how pretty it was and how clean everything was. There was a tornado warning while we were there our first night and the front desk had us go to the employee lounge on the first floor where there were no windows. The staff had walkie talkies and they checked on us frequently and let us know when the danger was past. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. We ate at the in-house restaurant on the patio overlooking the river.Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Margaritas were huge and 2 of them were 15 something. German beer was 4 a bottle.
A casino was an EASY walk just across the street and right beside that is a big river museum. The hotel was convienent to other attractions and there is a free bus-like trolley car run by the city that takes you around town. Ours ran every 20 min to a half hour. We never used the water park but looked in the door and it looks like great family fun for younger people with children. I don't think you can go wrong with hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the river.

We won an overnight stay at Grand Harbor Resort at a benefit and were very excited about redeeming it! Dubuque is only a hour drive from home, so this was a short trip for us. We were able to check in early and the staff at the front desk was very accommodating and friendly. Our room was on the 5th floor facing the parking lot... it was very clean and had plenty of room for the four of us. We rented a Pack 'n' Play from the hotel ($5 + tax) and still had plenty of room with this set up. The young man who brought us the Pack 'n' Play was very polite when he delivered it to our room... he even brought us a fitted sheet, small blanket and extra pillow. Nice, flat screen TV, clean linens and spotless bathroom. We went to the waterpark on the day we arrived and our daughters (ages 2.5 & 1.5) had a blast! The waterpark had lots of different things for them to do... both loved the slides and were able to ride them on our laps. (There was one additional slide that needed a tube which we did not ride.) My husband and I thought the water was a tad cold, but the girls didn't mind at all! We played for a solid 3 hours before it was time for dinner. Before check-out, we played a few games in the arcade downstairs... lots of fun for the whole family! We will definitely return to Grand Harbor!
