This hotel has about 9 "suite" rooms, one of which I stayed in. Not bad at all. New hotel. Has a place to do laundry, but no detergent on site, which I think they should remedy. Pool is ok. Didn't seem very busy when I was there, which was nice. Elevator is slow, so I ended up using the stairs a lot. They have ONE extra nice two room suite, which I toured. Looked nice, and affordable. Check it out if you have 30 extra bucks.

Typical Holiday Inn Express - newer facility. Only downside is that the walls seem quite thin. Listened to lengthy phone conversation of person in next room. Fortunately, ended by 10:00 PM, so not interrupt sleep. Otherwise good stay, if about 10.00 too high for cost. Internet a bit spotty, but overall acceptable.

We stayed the weekend of July 23/24. We liked this place. It's pretty new, less than I year old I think, which always help in the cleanliness and fresh mattress depts. The location while out on the newer west end is actually plenty convenient to attractions and has a lot of services near by. The rooms could use a bit more soundproofing between the walls but I didn't hear anyone above us and we were on floor 2 of 3. I would have appreciated a central stairs as an option vs the elevator wait but, the stairs on the ends are nice and wide and not that much extra of a walk. It's a good value hotel and.....its pretty new. Our Friday 2PM front desk person was in an off mood on our arrival and couldnt have showed less interest in our reservation noted request to have the rooms closer together but, on day 2 & 3 she had found her mojo again and was upbeat and willing to help with directions etc. The request wasn't that big a deal so we shrugged off the greeting. The rest of the evening and late night staff was very friendly. There is a great new movie theatre very close by. This fit the bill perfectly. Not looking for a 5 star downtown Chicago hotel for a family visit in Dubuque.

The HIE in Dubuque is a brand new hotel. We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff who were more than happy to give diirections to attractions or organise for a bus to the local casino.

The hotel is located away from the older part of town but convenient to a shopping mall and only a short drive away from the tourist attractions of old Dubuque.

We had a great stay and would recommend the hotel for comfort and value.

Overall we were pleased with our stay. We stayed last night, the Saturday night of Labor Day weekend. We did not notice how busy it was until late last night when we heard many voices in the hall and again at breakfast.
On check-in, the girl was very nice, poliet, and friendly. The room was very clean. You can tell this is a very new hotel by the condition and the faint paint smell when you first enter a room. The room was very spacious. We had a handicapped accessible room. It was outstanding. There were not only several grab bars in the tub and near the higher tiolet, there also was a tub seat available. The door security lock was at a high and low level and a wheelchair would have no problem getting around in the space.
The hotel is out past all the busyness & the mall area of Dubuque. It sits down behind a berm off the busy road, so there is good privacy if you want the curtains open and there was very little road noise. Just up the street is a shopping center with Kohl's & a grocery store and I believe I saw a sign for Old Navy & Michaels. There is a sports bar accross the street & restaurants nearby.
The pool was a very comfortable temp and they played music in the area which I really enjoyed. The hot tub was kind of hot but it was big and comfortable. The timer does not last long, so be prepared to get out and restart.
Breakfast was typical for a HI Express. Hot eggs and sausage and bicuits & gravy. Cereal, yogurt, fruit cups, & bagels, etc. However the fresh, hot cinnamon rolls were anything but. Mine as very cold as if still frozen. I didn't mind because there was so much else & the coffee was wonderful and available all day.
So now that I have covered the good, here is a little bit fo not so great... If you are looking for a place to get away from noise and just say Ahhhh like the privacy door hangers say, this is not the place. The walls are somewhat thin and you will hear others in the hall, talking, and watching TV. Also, if you like a solid, firm mattress, this again is not the hotel for you. The bed was very very soft and you sink way in. Now, I know some people like that. But both my husband & I woke with backaches.
Like I said, overall this is a very nice hotel in a good location and i would stay again and recommend it to others.
