It made me remember why I always say "Iowa is not flat." My 5 year old thought it was great! He appreciated the train track, steep, cool ride. Totally worth it.
And after being gone for years, it was the reminder I needed that Dubuque is a gorgeous old city. It has a history. The architecture is so rich. Take a 15 minute stroll on around Fenlon Street area and you will see Victorian, colonial, craftsman, American foursquare and ramblers . You rarely see that. ANYWHERE.

“Great view”

scary at first but you will love the ride and the view from the top! We enjoyed the houses as we walked along the top of the bluff.

“Uneventful ride ;)”

This is an interesting idea, getting from the top of the bluff to the bottom on a track. Can see why it was built back when. If you do it, walk around downtown and get some chocolate.

“Gorgeous view!”

If you want a breathtaking view of the entire waterfront without climbing lots of steps definitely ride this elevator. Not only it's it a precious piece of history, the ride up and back is a blast. If you're looking for a roller coaster this is not it! Rather you have to appreciate the innovations of a by-gone era. A definite must-see in Dubuque. Next time I want to try it at night to see the city lights!

Expect a slow 6 person tram ride up and down a steep hillside that overlooks the city $1.50 each way. There is no real history other than that it was originally built in the 1800s, no food, or shop, and the line doesn't move quickly. It may be a cute place to take a date if you have a little time to kill.
