“A little to much hospitality”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

We stopped by early afternoon after a beautiful day at the Mississippi National River Museum. I had seen some positive critic on trip advisor, so we figured we couldn't go wrong trying Mario’s for a small lunch before heading to our next stop. Mario was there and greeted us spontaneously in a charming, 'old school' kind of way. A nice surprise. We quickly bonded due to our European heritage, and felt right at home!

Although, it was a slow time of the day, having only 1 server on staff became a challenge trying to serve the customers in a timely manner. While she tried doing a good job, Mario made it his point wanting to entertain us. Although, we very familar with European tradition, we felt a little intimidated when Mario didn’t give us some privacy after a good amount of time. We shared it was our Anniversary and hoped for a small but good meal with some 1 on 1 time.

Mario had been sitting at the bar for some time, obviously had already a few glasses of wine ahead of us. He wasn’t going to part with us soon. The discomfort increased when he did get a little to ‘friendly’ with his hands, so we decided it was time to skip the order and postpone our lunch.

This could have been a much nicer experience, and I am sure the food would have tasted good.

“Average Italian food...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012 via mobile

If you have had REALLY good Italian, like from the North end of Boston where you can dine on heavenly aromas, this place will NOT stack up. It is OK, just not superbly special in my book. The sausage and veggie pasta was primarily tiny diced potatoes with noodles and pretty bland. Add a few mini diced onions and couple carrot shreds and a few mini diced pieces of plain sausage. Not much to impress and this was an advertised special. We also had calzone. Again, nothing to shout about. Somewhat doughy. Considering fact that owners are first generation Italian from NYC area, I had higher hopes of finding fare similar to what can be had in Boston.

“Family run”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

You will find Mario often greeting customers, ever a gentleman kissing the hands of the ladies. The Italian love is evident in this family run, charming local favorite. Must tries include the Sicilian Salad and Panzaratti.
