Food and service were excellent, and it all seemed fresh, but can't believe they serve frozen French fries, which we didn't order since they were frozen. Walleye, scampi, onion rings, cheddar potatoes, salad dressings were wonderful. Noise level was only other negative. Needs baffling.

We were a party of 5 on a Sat night, so of course we waited at this popular southside rest. But we did get seated after about 20 mins & had a very good meal & a nice visit with friends we hadn't seen in awhile. I had the cavatelli & it was served hot! I was only able to eat about 1/3 of it - plenty for 2 to share! Our service was a little offhand, but perhaps it was because they were VERY busy & looked like they were perhaps short staffed that night. Don't go here if you're in a hurry but if you're looking for a nice, sit-down, leisurely meal, you'd do well to go here.

We were staying at a nearby hotel. Not wanting to go far we picked Skip's. The parking lot was full. We thought we were in for a treat. We were warmly greeted and seated. But the table was right by the front door. There really shouldn't be a table there. The server was friendly and did a good job. Our party ordered a cheeseburger, pork tenderloin sandwich, and tomato and basil angel hair pasta. The sandwiches were good. The pasta was just OK. It needed something more to make it taste better. When we were done our bill came quickly. $37 was a bit expensive for what we got.

I was traveling with a business group and ended up at Skip's because it was near our hotel and had good reviews. Our server was slow, unhelpful, and rude. Soon after arriving, we asked the server if they offered an appetizer sampler, and she replied, "No," and then walked off, disappearing for several minutes without taking our order. This pattern continued throughout the evening and made our dining experience unpleasant. The food was ordinary at best and it took forever to get it. I visit Des Moines often and will not be back to Skip's.

My family travels fairly regularly and we always try to make sure we have time to stop and eat at Skip's before we hit the airport. You may have to wait a little bit to get a table but it is worth the wait!
