Attraction details
Owner description: Open to visitors since September 2009, the John and Mary Pappajohn Sculpture Park features artwork by 22 of the world's most celebrated artists. The 4.4 Acre park, located within a major crossroads of the urban grid, creates a pedestrian friendly entranceway to downtown Des Moines. This accessible setting, coupled with the skilled landscape design and caliber of the art, makes it unlike any other sculpture park in the United States. The Pappajohns' contribution of 28 works for the park is the most significant donation of artwork ever made to the Des Moines Art Center.

Nice park but the address that is listed for it is incorrect. However the address that is listed lead us to a Rose Garden park (although most roses were cut down) and a museum that was free to enter.

As a runner, I love to run through the sculpture garden and take in the sights. There is always something going on around the park and who doesn't love Nomad?

My husband loves to go here to take pictures and capture the different lights and shadows. It is a pleasant place to walk and reflect. Would be a great place to sketch as well.

The sculpture park is a great place to get a bit of exercise or to let kids expend energy. There is plenty of room to run, jump and play (although staying away from most sculptures) and the sculptures are interesting and will provide fodder for conversation. It is easy to walk around the paved perimeter of the park too - and there is ample seating to take a break and gaze at the sculptures, if that is your thing!
