“Top Notch Vintage Luxury!”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

Our 3 day stay at the 1900 Inn was such a memorable time during our "grade school" girlfriend reunion. We are 1968 graduates from St. Joseph's Academy in Des Moines and came from Mpls., San Diego, and Little Rock. Jane and Tim (owners/innkeepers) made us feel right at home in their warm and welcoming environment. Jane is so gracious and Tim's sense of humor and knowledge of Iowa always shined through! The memories will be everlasting from... morning coffee by our bedroom doors, scrumptious breakfasts with shared conversations with Jane and Tim, an elegant library room that allowed us to gather for late night conversations, "picture taking" on their country style front porch, masterfully decorated king and queen rooms with speciality soaps etc., as the list goes on and on to a joyous reunion filled with treasured memories in a peaceful, tranquil home. The caring, warmth and detail to comfort by Jane and Tim will bring us back again and again in the years ahead. Next time, husbands included!

Room Tip: All rooms are comfortable and elegant!

On a recent road trip through the Midwest, my husband and I stayed a night at The 1900 Inn in DesMoines. We were greeted on arrival by Tim, who showed us to our room, gave us information on breakfast as well as recommendations for dinner.

We stayed in the Master Suite. The room was tastefully decorated, bringing in touches of the era of the house without overdoing it and making you feel you traveled back in time. The bed was comfortable. We had the ability to control the level of heating/cooling which was a nice treat since I like things a little on the cool side when I am sleeping. The room also had the nicest bathroom we have ever experienced at a B&B. It was a nice size, plenty of room without being too big.

Breakfast the next morning was delicious: fruit, breakfast pizza, scones, juice, and coffee. Since we were the only guests at the time, we were able to have a nice conversation with Jane after she brought us our food.

I think my favorite thing was the early morning coffee service. A tray with a carafe of coffee, cups and saucers, and cream was left outside of our room in the morning, an hour before breakfast, so that we could have some while getting ready. As someone who needs something to eat or drink first thing in the morning, this was a wonderful treat.

We know where we will stay any time we are in the DesMoines area and will recommend The 1900 Inn to others.

Room Tip: Loved the Master Suite.

We stayed three nights with Jane and Tim. We feel like they were long lost friends by the time we left. I have stayed at many B&Bs with my husband but this was my favorite. Everything was perfect. They were wonderful hosts - there when you needed them but they gave you your privacy as well. Breakfast was amazing - Jane is soooo good!!! The house was so charming, again everything was perfect. I just loved it - we have been home a week but keep thinking about our stay.

This couple was the best! They made us feel special as their hosts. Very respectful to our time and our space. We appreciate that so much. As we've stated before, being a good guest is a huge part of having a good stay.

We were greeted by the lady of the house. She was very gracious. We were allowed to check in early and then continue our excursions around town. The room and bath was very spacious and clean. The WiFi worked very well. The breakfast was very good. The butterscotch and apple scones were scrumptious. The hostess visited with us during breakfast. Very friendly. This is one of the nicest bed and breakfasts we've visited.

Room Tip: The "Master" was very roomy. The tub was great. The sheets and pillows were fantastic.

My wife and I arrived for a five night stay with Jane and Tim at the well restored and comfortable Bed and Breakfast in a wonderful neighborhood location. Though the home is restored to a 1900 vintage, the rooms (we chose the Master Suite), are well furnished in the period decor while providing modern bathrooms and excellent internet service in each room. It was quite warm during our stay so we would normally retire in the afternoon downstairs to the cool "Presidential Library' to read and refresh in very comfortable chairs, great reading lights, and very unique antiques throughout. But the best part was getting to visit with Jane, and sometimes, Tim, during breakfast. Not only was their story of the restoration of the home from an abandoned hovel to the jewel that it is today interesting, but they provided great suggestions for our time at the Iowa State Fair (Tim works with the Ag Extension Service) as well as the Saturday Farmer's Market. Jane takes such pride in 'her place' serving scrumptious breakfasts every morning -- during our five days we had five different breakfasts!!! Cannot recommend The 1900 Inn highly enough!!

Room Tip: Be sure and make your reservations early. The proximity of the 1900 Inn within easy walking distance...

If you have a need to travel to Des Moines, the 1900 Inn is a wonderful alternative to the overpriced hotels in the area. Tim & Jane sure know how to pamper their guests. From the big things (comfy bed, wonderful breakfast, fluffy towels, crisp sheets, coffee and/or tea brought to room an hour before breakfast, friendly) to the little perks (chocolate by bedside, small fridge with available refreshments, glasses & ice buckets available, adorable furnishings, love letter in antique typewriter) they did it all right. I could go on and on about what they do right. Cannot think of a thing they did wrong! They are located very close to attractions and it is very easy to get around there.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Americana Room and we loved it, but judging by the rest of the house, I'm sure...

My partner and I spent three nights at The 1900 Inn in early August. The home is beautiful, and the accommodations outstanding. Jane and Tim made us feel very comfortable and "at home." The location could not be better, with easy access to restaurants and downtown attractions. The bed was amazingly comfortable, and we could not have had a better experience. The owners offered us restaurant advice which was spot-on. If you are looking for a place to stay in Des Moines, look no further. When back in Iowa, we will definitely be staying here again.
