Description: At Rubaiyat, we feature a seasonal American menu, emphasizing straight - forward, approachable cuisine that both looks and tastes clean and composed. This means simply but skillfully prepared ingredient - driven dishes that reveal our commitment to using the highest quality products, in season, and local when available. The inspiration behind Rubaiyat's menu reflect Chef Andy's classic and diverse culinary influences. Yet he's consistently led back to creating food that is distinctly contemporary, and as our name would have it, dishes that are "food for thought". As a result, Rubaiyat's refined seasonal American dishes combine four of the qualities that we value most: integrity, style, restraint, and playfulness. That is found in our personal mission to shape the dining experience around culinary delights from beginning to end. We insist on honoring the smallest details underlying the very rhythm of the restaurant, including our service. Come find out for yourself just why our staff is second to none. Cheers!! This restaurant appears from the sidewalk to be more bar than the excellent restaurant it is! The dining room is nicely appointed with interesting art, the experienced staff is able to describe the menu items in detail. The specials are lovely and appropriate portions, the traditional dish my husband selected, Veal Oscar, was really for someone with a extremely hearty appetite. The special beet salad was beautiful, fresh, crisp and perfectly dressed; the filet Mignon was also perfectly prepared, medium rare, and accompanied with green beans that needed to cook just a bit longer; they were too close to raw. The chocolate dessert was divine! Reservations are a must!

We make a trip to Decorah every year. For the last few years we have tried our best to get to Rubaiyat - and finally made it happen. Are we ever glad we did. From making reservations and the pleasing way they were handled - and then greeted when arriving - to the table selection for the 5 of us - the young ladies taking care of the water glasses - and then the server - Steph - all was enjoyable and felt like we were visitors in a house. The options from small meals to full meals were all quite enjoyable. One opted for Soup and Salad - that they enjoyed...one got chicken sliders - with FF. The sliders and fries were wonderful...one for Salmon which was cooked perfectly and quite tasty...one veal - was not quite up to what was hoped...and finally the pork which was outstanding. So all-in-all a great meal. We did not get wine - but what an incredible list along with a full bar. For Decorah incredible...for anyplace even large cities...quite a bit above average. We will go back when we return to Decorah next year. Try it - I believe you will find it quite a pleasant evening.

I think this restaurant lives up to our expectations having read previos reviews at tripadvisor. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food tasted excellent and was deliciously prepared. I also think they should be praised for their selection of beers and wines. I only give 4 out of 5 because the service was a little bit slow at times and that it possibly lacked the things that would make it really special. Highly recommended though.

Words cannot express how grateful we are to Andy and the staff of Rubaiyat. They responded to our every need in very short notice, and provided us with hospitality that was unprecedented. Literally no hassles about special requests and they went above and beyond the call of duty to accomadate us on our special day. The food was perfectly prepared, beautifully plated, and delivered promptly. The ambiance was delightful, and all of our wedding guests were extremely pleased. The smiling faces and warm encounters with the staff added to the enjoyment of everyone. Even the kitchen staff was a joy to behold. If good Karma is real....this establishment will continue to thrive.

I so enjoy a rural Iowa community with a vibrant downtown and "mainstreet," and Rubaiyat adds so much to downtown Decorah. We happened upon their Sunday brunch and enjoyed one of their signature dishes for Sundays, seafood crepes. Add to that their Bloody Mary bar, locally brewed beers (Toppling Goliath Brewing Company has their home in Decorah), and a wide selection of wines, it's a "must stop" when in Northeast Iowa.
