Spent a lovely night at this gem in Davenport, Iowa. What a pleasant surprise from the marble lobby and martini bar to the beautifully decorated rooms. Soft hues of Grey mixed with black and white offer elegance and taste. Nice bathroom with both soaking tub and large glass shower. My husband called it a spa inside a hotel room. Give this place a try

The previous night we had stayed at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids.
That was the hotel to which I compared my hotel experiences in eastern Iowa.
The Hotel Blackhawk was much more expensive than the Kirkwood and much less impressive.
I dont agree this is the best hotel in town, nor am I convinced it is worth the high cost.
The check in was not welcoming. I was in room 514. It was dark and depressing. Yes the linens were nice, the bed comfortable but the bathroom was just adequate because with the door open it was in your face when using the toilet. The shower head was unreachably high and the walls in the shower depressing. I expected much better and did not get it. Some rooms have a view of the river but mine had a view of the parking lot.

Room Tip: Ask for river view, high floor or a corner suite

Dear 2013traveler,

It is unfortunate to hear that your stay here did not live up to one of the other four diamond properties in Iowa. We are fortunate to have some rooms that have views overlooking the Mississippi River, however we do have a limited number so we cannot guarantee a river view. I apologize that our front desk did not seem welcoming, that is certainly not the impression that we wish to send to our guests. Please contact me directly if you plan to return to the Quad Cities.

Have stayed here (and in other places when this isn't available) several times when on business in the area. This has the most character, biggest and best equipped rooms, good food & wine (a broad, deep list) and is very friendly and welcoming.
What could be better? The "martini bar" is a bit ropey - twice they seemed surprised to be asked to mix an actual martini rather then pour a beer, then they ran out of ingredients and produced a chemical concoction that could have been used to unblock drains. It has been very quiet there each time we have been- much better atmosphere in bars outside the hotel. The bowling alley was good fun though.
Will definitely return on our next visit to the Quad Cities.
Also, various online systems had shown the hotel to be fully booked, but a late call to them confirmed this wasn't and never had been the case, so don't rely on the internet alone.

Stayed for a family wedding. Excellent renovated hotel with great service in all areas, especially the retaurants catering. Parking was full because of wedding guest but the hotel immediately jumped to the occasion and provided an alternative valet service.

After an amazing restoration of this Hotel I could hardly believe it was the same place I had visited in the past. The main lobby and the rooms were lovely. Parking right next door made it very convenient and valet parking an added benefit. We loved the fact that you could open the windows for fresh air and some rooms even had small balcony's. Crown molding in bedrooms a nice touch and bathroom amenities very nice. THere was a small slab of marble tile at the entrance to the bathroom that had a rough edge and did cut my foot twice but I learn to step over not on it. the separate seating area with a well stock fridge was a nice touch also with nice sofa and side chair for visiting. The downstairs Martini Bar was fun too but the $45 an hour bowling was too pricey for us. If you had a large group I guess it wouldn't have been bad. Martini's were good and tasty but a bit pricey at $11 a piece and in small glasses. The pizza we ordered and took back to the room was fabulous and only $7. Noon check out also a plus since we didn't roll out of bed until 10:00. Darn Martini's.

Room Tip: ask for one with a view of the river

My husband and I enjoyed a night away at this property and enjoyed it. The hotel is classy and hip yet very welcoming. Some hotels in this caliber fail in that they are pretentious. There was nothing pretentious about this property. It has been nicely restored into a mix of elegance, class and fun. The property is located on the edge of downtown Davenport, in a quiet area not far from nightlife, with its own complimentary parking lot. The handsome Juan waved us in and held the door open for us.

I love that the main entrance has its own small lobby, then you walk a little further and get to the main lobby which is huge, elegant yet comfortable. I like that the check-in desks have chairs. Most people don't use them, but it's nice that they thought of it. I think long benches would work a little better, as most people who are checking in have lots of things in their hands and they'd have a place to sit everything. The lobby is open and has several little outlets - from a salon featuring a guy giving classic single-blade shaves to the bar to a shoeshine bench. There is also a little coffee shop.

Check in was quick and easy. Since there are so many outlets and things to do in the hotel, I would have appreciated a sheet of paper explaining all of the hotel amenities. The elevator was quick and quiet and the halls were nice and quiet. Our room was at the very end of the hallway and had a spacious bathroom on one side and a spacious bedroom with a modern chaise lounge and desk on the other. It was fun going through the minibar. You don't see stocked minibars very often any more. I was very tempted, as there was an awesome variety, everything from beer to Patron. The room was clean, some spots of wear, but everything was very modern and comfortable. I LOVED the soaking tub, the attached shower and the TV in the bathroom mirror although we did not use it. I liked how utilitarian and modern the bathroom was, very clean and uncluttered.

In the morning, I brought my coffee mug down to the coffee shop and ordered fresh beignets to take back to the room. Neither were anything very special, but very reasonably priced and something a little different. A small thing - I noticed several words misspelled on the chalk board. For example, "South of the Boarder" skillet should be "border" and they abbreviated the word "etcetera" as "ect" instead of "etc". A couple others I could not remember. The artwork was nice though.

I gave this property a 5-circle rating because of the condition of the property, the restaurant, bar and other facilities available. A very lovely property. I feel the service could be better. It was not BAD at all...I just feel like the property itself is very special and guests should be made to feel very special too. All of the employees we came across were nice enough, but there was nothing overly friendly or extraordinary that made the employees seem happy and proud to be there, which they should be. I noticed in the lobby that the hotel has received many praises.

We stayed during a family weekend trip to visit with our daughter who is attending Augustana College just across the river in Rock Island, IL. This hotel is very close to the college, easy to get to, and very, very nice! We had fun bowling and food in the restaurant was a bit pricey but very good! Rooms were clean and comfortable and quiet. Overall a very nice experience.
