“Wonderful park in the middle of the city.”

I live very close to this park. They are working on restoring the park to it's original design. Many large trees, and beautiful lighted fountain in the summer. The conservatory, while small, has great displays throughout the year.

“This is a nearly perfect central park”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2010

This park is lovely and has it all. The conservatory has regular seasonal displays. The current motif was in honor of Eric Carle's "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". The working greenhouses are fun to wander through and check out what's coming to the next conservatory display. Admission $1.00, free on Tuesdays. Exit through the gift shop, of course. The lagoon with ducks attracted a crowd with an organized story time for kids.

The Friends of Vander Veer get credit for a massive renovation of the park along its 1880's origins. Their volunteers were busily deadheading the roses in the formal garden. The newer Grand Allee is now nicely shaded by a canopy of tree branches. At the south end is the Stone Fountain with changing water displays, nicely lighted at night.

The perimeter sidewalk attracts walkers. The lagoon is groomed for wintertime ice skating. It really is a lovely park.
