Just returned from the Isle of Man - our first trip. Could not have wished for better accommodation. Marilyn was lovely and left fresh milk and chocolate biscuits. Fresh flowers in the sun room. Cottage had absolutely everything we needed. Plenty of utensils etc in the kitchen. All the rooms were perfect for the two of us. had a couple of cold evenings so used the wood burning stove - easy to use, Sun room was lovely with an excellent view. Visited daily by "Jack and friends" horses living in the neighbouring field. always waiting for their carrots each day. Kirk Michael a great base to stay on the island with well stocked shop/garage/tearooms and pub serving meals. Would love to return.
Clean and well furnished. Good outlook at the rear of the cottage. Plenty to see and experience local to Kirk Michael.
We just stayed in Whitehouse Cottage no 2 for a week and had a great time. The cottage has been modernised with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom, and central heating. The sitting room is very cosy and has a log fire (we didn't need to use it). There is a double bedroom and a single room, so its perfect for two people, three at a push.
There is a rear 'garden' room extension from which you can look out over the fields and hills to the rear. The garden is lovely, lots of wild flowers and the birds are in constant attendance to the feeders just outside the door. Horses also come to the back fence for some carrots!
The cottage is situated on the main road just as you leave the village heading north. There is some traffic noise but the road is not busy at all.
The village has most amenities, petrol station, a local newsagents/grocery shop which stocks most things. (There is a large Shoprite supermarket in Peel which is about 5-6 miles away driving south or a Spar in Ballaugh which 3-4 miles away north). Also there is a Chemist, Post Office and a rather fine local butcher. You must try the excellent Manx meat which is superb! There is a large pub, the Mitre, which serves food and Okell's Ales, another local Manx product you must try! Also on Friday nights the mobile chip shop, calls into the village. Recommended for great fish & chips.
Kirk Michael is situated on the west side of the island heading north. I love the windswept wild beaches on that side of the island. Douglas the capital is about a 30 minute drive away, but due to the size of the island everywhere is reachable in a short time anyway. So it's a lovely peaceful base from which to explore the Island.
