“Great medieval themed hotel”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We stayed in this hotel twice this summer, and really loved our second reservation. We checked into the King Arthur specialty room (201) which included a king size poster bed, a whirlpool tub, and a fireplace in the center of a gigantic bookshelf. The décor of the room was very romantic, and a very relaxing. It was the best place to visit on our last day of our vacation. The medieval theme is carried out throughout the hotel and restaurant 'The House of Lords'. Though we did not use the restaurant on this trip we have heard that the medieval theme continues here. The hotel has a large indoor pool area and a spa area with two whirlpool tubs, but the spa was under repair on this trip. The hotel offers a fitness area, but we did not use this facility. The hotel has an extended continental breakfast that includes several hot items including: oatmeal, biscuits & gravy, scrambled eggs & sausage, but also offers cold cereal, various bread items, and pastries. The breakfast is served pool side, and there is never a problem finding a table. The staff is friendly and helpful. We have used this hotel several times in our travels, and we were especially please with the specialty room this visit. The regular room was $90, and the King Arthur room was $175 we found those prices reasonable. Amana colonies are close by and may be a place to visit before or after your stay.

Room Tip: Rooms that are near the pool or view the pool via a balcony area may not be quiet during evening hou...

The room at the Best Western Cantebury Inn and Suites in Coralville, Iowa was beautiful and at a very reasonable cost. Two floors with bedroom on second floor, complete with modern TV. First floor had a sofa, TV, desk and all the accoutrements needed for comfort. The room opened onto the pool which was large, clean and attractive. Breakfast was great with a wonderful selection of hot and cold foods. Most important, the staff were genuinely attentive, pleasant and caring. I couldn't have enjoyed my stay more.

Room Tip: If available and you don't mind the "climb" up one floor of stairs in your room, the 2...

This hotel needs a major upgrade. The rooms were okay, but dark and outdated. Also could hear the neighbors and noise from the pool area. We had a loft room with jacuzzi and balcony that overlooked the pool. The pool was so cold we couldn't swim. The two hot tubs were disgusting. They were filthy and only a few jets between the two were working. An employee even agreed saying they knew they were really bad, but no one seemed to really care about cleaning them. The hallway where our room was located was a sauna! Every time we opened the door to our hallway the heat and smell would slam into you. The free breakfast was fine, they even had hot food which is nice (scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy and waffles). Unless there is a major renovation, we will not return.

BAD choice for our anniversary celebration with our family .Where to begin our Room,Pool,Restaurant,Breakfast Area . This was a complete disappointment from the desperately outdated dirty carpeting throughout to the disgusting pool area with an over abundance of visable MOLD !! NO towels available at the pool was a bonus ? Our granddaughter used the hot tub, when we viewed the water we had her immediately get out,the water appeared dirty and had a film. Breakfast was held in the pool area it was unkempt with trash overflowing, cereal overflowing ,dirty rags laying on the counters .When we arrived most all the hot items were empty so we had to go to the front desk to ask that they refill the items .The restauraunt was a complete disaster under staffed, unorganized our 6 meals ranged from cold to over cooked the wait was totally unacceptable. We will NEVER revisit this establishment ! Best Western should highly consider their affiliation with this property it is a complete nightmare

On a trip across the country, we stopped in Coralville for a rest. I like to get something a little different, and this place fit the bill.

Clearly, it's Medieval-themed (think knights, not princesses). All the doors boast pained crests, and the walls are adorned with murals and smaller paintings. Rooms seem to each have their own character, with multi-level layouts, and stocked bookshelves around fireplaces. The lobby has comically large "thrones" and a spiral-ish staircase.

We had a single king suite. It had a separate bedroom with french doors and a pull-out couch for the kids. (I'm really starting to hate doing that to them. SO uncomfortable.) Everything was clean and functional. The bathroom was Spartan and showing it's age. Pillows were terrible.

The indoor pool is surrounded by room windows, so no one's getting much privacy there. Above the pool is a stained glass dome, which leaks, but at least there is a pool to catch it.

There is a restaurant on site (did not visit) located in their basement. Discounts given to guests.

The breakfast was passable, just OK (cereal is a good option! but at least it's an option), and is presented next to the pool, right next to some rooms. Do what you can to avoid staying in those!

They also have some arcade style games and a pool table. That area smells like a bar. Very strong smoke smell. Reminds me of a bowling alley from the 80s.

I could stay again. Especially if they updated.

Room Tip: Avoid the pool area.
