“Now called Mondo's Sports Cafe”
Reviewed February 13, 2014

The restaurant at this location is now called Mondo's Sports Cafe and if this suggests a loud place to eat, it is a more correct name than Mondo's Tomato Pie. If you want to dine with people without being able to speak to them, this is a good place to go. An early (5:30 pm) dinner before an engagement on a Saturday night is not the time for this type of noise.

The food was just OK. Expect bread dipped in olive oil that has to be treated with pepper to cover up the low quality of the oil. Plan on huge salads or sandwiches, nothing special.

“Lunch? No so so.”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

We went there for lunch on December 27. Atmosphere was nice. Waiter was very polite and refill our drinks quite often.
We ordered some bread which usually is fresh. This time the center was frozen! Food was just OK. One of the Salmon filets was overcooked the other undercooked.
I have eaten in this place several times and it has been declining.
Not what is used to be.
They also charged us extra for additional salad dressing?
Did I say they charge is for the bread, not other restaurant does that?

“The Bartender made this place GREAT!”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

It was the end of a LONG day on the road, and we ended up staying at the crappiest motel in Iowa (see my review of Coralville Days Inn.) Despondent, and wanting to find any place that would serve us beer, we found Mondo's. The food was pretty good for a late night, but the bartender, Megan, was what really makes this place great. She could tell something was wrong, and we finally told her about our terrible lodging. This girl actually offered us a place on her couch, because she knew how bad the Days Inn was. We didn't know her at all, and did not take her up on her wonderful, generous offer, but what a great heart she has! She actually made me smile on what was a really awful, awful day. Thanks Megan, and if you are her boss, she needs a raise!

“Awful”
Reviewed September 6, 2013 via mobile

How about asking if the food was ok. Didn't happen. Pepper pasta steal tasted like jerky. Talked to hostess who talked to manager. Then received bill for horrible food. Never again.

“Not what it used to be”
Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

I used to be a Mondo's fan. No more. Friends in from out of town bringing their daughter to Iowa. Thought Mondo's a safe choice for dinner. All dinners below average. My pasta was stale or poorly cooked. Topping was tasteless. My wife's was worse than mine. Sad.
