“Excellent Food and Very Good Service”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

We were there for a Singles Group dinner. But we were scattered rather than sitting all at one table. Food there has always been great.

“Old Favorite”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Still the same after all these years - still really good prime rib at a reasonable price. Good service too. (Just miss the old window above the bar looking into swimming pool)

“Nice menu choices”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Liked - Excellent menu choices, good food, good service.

Dislike - Only problem I had, on Tuesdays they have all you can eat ribs. First serving comes out great! Second serving not bad but not great. Third serving absolute tough as shoe leather.

“Step into the Dungeon”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

The House of Lords is one of my all-time faves. The food is great, service is good & environment is one of a kind. This place hasn't changed much since the 80s, but has a Camelot feel... Swinging doors on private booths with a service flag to throw out (great for privacy). A water wheel, etc. The Prime Rib is their specialty, their twice baked potato is amazing & the Orange Roughy with a Rosemary cream sauce is my personal vice. Goblets of beers or margaritas & an extensive ice cream drink list. It's in the basement of a similarly-themed hotel & totally worth the trip.

“Best Beef Wellington in years”
Reviewed March 11, 2012

Like its host hotel, the Canterbury Inn, the House of Lords Restaurant is a cheerfully proud anachronism, which will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year. Buried in the basement of the hotel, but tricked out to resemble a medieval lord's dining hall, the entrance via a miniature water wheel is just too hokey for my taste. But, once you are into the restaurant proper, the decor becomes a little more functional and less Disney-ish. The main seating area is warm and welcoming, especially because it is lined with booths, some of which can be screened for really intimate dining. The bar is cheerfully splendid, with a good range of spirits, wines and beers, which can be served in monster goblets at reasonable prices. Also a wild variety of ice cream drinks, with or without alcohol, for those with a sweet tooth.

Manager Lori McCurn presides in very friendly fashion over the restaurant. The house specialty is prime rib, but when I inquired about the Beef Wellington listed on the menu, Lori recommended it as her personal favorite. Beef Wellington was a staple item on chophouse menus 30+ years ago. Gripped by nostalgia, I ordered it, and was delighted by the result: it was one of the best Beef Wellingtons I've ever tasted. There are, by the way, ample other choices on the menu beyond beef: something for every taste, including vegetarians.

I should mention a final act of kindness from Lori McCurn. I had told her that my dog was waiting hungrily in my room above, and asked for a plain hamburger "to go" to give him for his supper. Lori provided much better than hamburger: a hearty portion of "off-cut" from the prime rib, completely free of charge.

I very much look forward to another opportunity to dine in the House of Lords.
