My husband and I were visiting family in Iowa and preparing for a very busy week. This was our only night to relax and enjoy a meal out before meeting up with family the next day and we are very glad that we chose the Candlelight Inn. We sat outside on the deck overlooking the Mississippi River and it was absolutely beautiful. The service was at a nice pace. We didn't feel rushed to make a decision or to dine but it was efficient enough that we didn't feel neglected. The food was absolutely delicious and a good representation of the Midwest. The catfish was wonderful and the onion rings to die for! Would highly recommend this restaurant!

Although it was a busy Saturday night, the service was cordial and efficient. Food came out fast. Presentation was appetizing and the quantities impressive. Ihad the prime rib and Chicken George. That combination was essentially two complete meals. The prime rib was grilled and covered in grilled vegatables. Taste: amazing! As melt-in-your-mouth tender as it gets and slyly spicy. The Ginger Princess, usually not a fan of meats not carbonized and grey, became a fan. The Chicken George also melted in the mouth. Not heavy, tender, with a sweet, light breading. I've been puzzling all day over how they do it, but I suspect that really good, fresh chicken is the secret. High quality comfort food. Ambiance was happily busy, full of families sharing good times. Some folks were out on the deck, enjoying the eveming. And the view of the Mississippi is a great backdrop.

My review is middle of the road because there were high points and low points.

We were in town to see the Columbus Foundations Nina & Pinta recreations, and because the marina restaurant was so close we checked it out for a Friday dinner. There's a delightful overview of the marina and the Mississippi River through the resto windows and from the deck.

First of all the joint was jammed! And I mean JAMMED. We waited nearly an hour for a table; no estimate was made for how long the wait might be. Not long after we were seated at a table on the outside deck they were so full inside at the bar that people began milling in the between table spaces on the deck ruining the view and frankly causing something of a safety hazard.

Waitress service was quick and to the point. She was quick, attentive, and good at her job.

Not so much the food service. We waited a good 40 minutes for 1 meatloaf plate to arrive along with 2 AYCE fish drys ($13.99). The meatloaf was good if you like meatloaf with chopped green olives ($12.99). Our initial take on the fish fry-s was OK but as we forked into them we realized there wan't much fish for the amount of batter and that the batter was pretty greasy. The waitress came around quickly asking if we wanted more. Our request for a second helping for one of our party resulted in an almost immediate replenishment -- quite a change from the long wait for our initial order.

I have no idea if this place is always this busy, or if it being a Friday night people were out for an early summer let-down-your-hair night. Some of those waiting for tables were already well saturated with alcohol -- that did not improve our take on the place.

The view is worth a visit for drinks. The rest of the menu might be better than those items we had but meatloaf and fish fry are pretty basic and I wouldn't count on other items exceeding in quality or execution; perhaps another evening with fewer patrons might lead to a better experience. I can only speak to our experience and it I had it to do over again I would have looked around for a quieter place even at the loss of the view which we couldn't see because of drinkers standing between us and the river.

We went to the Candlelight for lunch based on recommendations of TripAdvisor and locals and were disappointed.

The ambiance is very nice. It's on the river with lots of glass for nice viewing. A bar with outside seating would be quite nice for a drink, especially on a warm evening. The food, however, is something else.

Granted this is based on one visit and not a thorough sampling of the menu, but I think one can extrapolate from this. I wanted to eat light and ordered the grilled chicken breast with a salad and steamed vegetables. The salad was OK, but rather small. Th chicken beast had been butterflyed and was over cooked. The steamed vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots) were small pieces that appeared to be frozen and were mushy from over cooking. Another dish at the table was pork with gravy that seemed from a can; the pork was moist and had a nicer finish than the chicken.

If all you want is ambiance, river views or a drink go. But, if you want really good food I would look elsewhere.

It was packed for a Friday night. Which indicates people must like this restaurant. We did. Drink specials, servers with handheld computers helped make them very efficient. The food was really tasty and plentiful. The views of the Mississippi were spectacular. Large bar and lots of outside deck dining. Price value was good. Not over priced for the value.
