Great traditional Czech dishes as well as other good food. Great selection of imported Czech beers served ice cold. They also served other craft beers and domestic beers. There were multiple TV's showing various sports events and a nice bar area behind the dining area. The food was reasonably priced and delicious. The waitress honored our request to turn on the sport event we wanted to see. Nice selection of appetizers as well.

Small place (get there early or late or you won't have a place to sit, even on a weeknight) with great Czech food (pork loin and goulash were delicious) and the BEST apple strudel I've ever had in my entire life--and that includes multiple times in Germany and eastern Europe.

Great food and service! Highly recommend paying the $3.00 upcharge to split a plate. The portions are HUGE!!!! Oh, and delicious. I had the breaded pork sandwich. The meat was double the size of the bun! One daughter had a hamburger that she described as "half a cow". Cooked to perfection and delicious. Other daughter had the cabbage roll.
The liver dumpling soup will not disappoint.
My only complaint was that we couldn't substitue dumplings and saurkraut for fries and slaw.

It's hard to find something besides the chain restaurants in Cedar Rapids. Al's is different - good pub food and Czech dishes. Not quite up to par with real Eastern European food (been there, done that) but what do you want in Iowa? A nice change from anything else around. The paprika chicken was quite tasty.
