“A One-Time Stop Event”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

If you enjoy excellent food that will bring you coming back for more then the Metro Buffet is not the place to go. Some of the entres were indeed enjoyable while others lacked anything suitable to stimulate one's pallate. We went in the evening and found the prices to be a little steep when compared to the edible offerings one was subjected to. Many other dining experiences are much more enjoyable in the area and while many others find this establishment to be enjoyable, I will not be returning anytime soon. As an accomplished chef in my own home, I would suggest that the food here be prepared as lower temperatures to avoid dryness and that a few seasonings be added to enhance otherwise bland food.

“Best Chinese Buffet in the USA”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Fresh Sushi prepared in front of you. Average chinese buffet food. Don't like it(msg, etc)? They let select raw food and they will wok cook it in front of you and ask how you want it. Iowa meat lovers will like their open Steak Grill and salad buffet. Huge dessert options, like old Bishops.

“Resonable price, nice selection.”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We went with a group of about 40. Had our own room in the back. I would recommend it for small groups. Everyone gets what they want, as long as they want. Average food but above average selection. Sushi available if you're into that. :o) Wonderful Terijaki ? chicken.

“Used to be ok, not any more”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Food is often cold, and sushi tastes old. They used to try to make it good. Now it looks like they're just trying to cut corners to increase profit.

“Cheap decent Chinese buffet”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

I ate 2 dinners here while at a convention across the street.
Pluses: wide selection, all items clearly labeled, variety of Chinese choices, adequate sushi, a few American items, American dessert including soft-serve ice cream, even pizza, and custom stir fry. The price is reasonable - you can fill yourself up for under $15, including beverage (unlimited refills), tax, and generous tip. And if you're a senior, ask for the 10% senior discount (not advertised). Since it's a buffet, if you're in a hurry to eat, you can have almost instant gratification. The restaurant is in the middle of the motel glut on 33rd Street, just west of I-380. The restaurant seemed clean, and I did not have any adverse reaction to either of the 2 dinners I ate there (and I have a sensitive stomach).
Minuses: the food will not win any culinary awards, it is mostly ordinary. There is a preponderance of fried items. I found some items too salty, especially soup.

Recommendation: if you pick judiciously, you can eat pretty well here, and as I said, it is cheap and has a clean, family atmosphere. Service (what there is in a buffet) was very prompt and with a smile.
