“Relaxing Getaway for Locals too”
Reviewed February 27, 2012

We are from this area and were looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary. This was our first stay in a B&B. Two nights in the Squirrel's Nest was just the trick. Inez makes you feel at home instantly and her cooking is homey and delicious. The view is spectacular, especially if you like bald eagle watching. Woke up to snow one morning and it was such a beautiful sight outside the wall of windows. We highly recommend this to anyone wishing to relax. Thanks Inez!!

Room Tip: The Squirrel's Nest has an en suite bathroom but the Bears Den does not.

In looking for a quaint B & B near Nauvoo, IL, I came across the Squirrel's Nest. Our Family of 3 stayed in the Squirrel's Nest room for 2 nights. We were running later than expected, and Inez was very understanding. On our arrival we found the futon for our daughter made up and ready to sleep on. Yummy cookies were on the counter in the kitchenette area. The Russian Teacake cookies were the lightest I have ever tasted. We had no clue as to the magnitude of the view until we awoke to find the sun rising over the Mississippi River. We live on the West Coast, and when visiting the east coast we are never motivated to get up to watch the sunrise. Were we in for a treat, sunrise from our own bed! There is a balcony off the room which allows you to enjoy the sounds of nature and take in the view. The room is very conducive for a Honeymoon Suite, though with our daughter along, we didn't get to enjoy the in-room spa. Breakfast was lovingly prepared. The plate was artfully arranged and the food yummy. Inez is a gracious hostess. She sat and visited with us while we ate our breakfast. Our time was too short. The location was an excellent option to staying in Nauvoo, where food choices are limited. Burlington has much to offer and it is only a short 30 minute drive to Nauvoo.

Room Tip: Highly Recommend the Squirrel's Nest

My husband and I spent our honeymoon in the Penthouse Suite. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing time. The third story view of the Mississippi is spectacular. We even had our own private balcony. Inez is a wonderful hostess and amazing cook. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and served with a personalized touch. We also had quick access to shopping and fine dining in Burlington. We are already planning our next weekend getaway at "The Nest!!"

Room Tip: The Penthouse Suite provides third story view with private balcony, kitchenette, and jacuzzi hot tub...

A must stay if you are going to Burlington, Iowa. A home with history. The Loft room a unique addition with view of the river. Inez is the perfedt hostess making her home yours and shares storys of her home and town history. She suggests Burlington sites , restaurants and events. Plus the breakfast will top anything you have had in a B & B.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Squirrel's Nest in the third floor suite called "The Nest." Inez and David treated us like we were dear friends and we felt comfortable in their wonderfully appointed Inn from the minute we walked through the door. The view overlooking the river is amazing, and we took advantage of the beautiful neighborhood with leisurely walks. Over the weekend, Inez fed us delicious breakfasts and made dinner reservations for us making sure we were well taken care of at both The Drake and Martini's Grille. We also took Inez's suggestion and enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Bistro 322. Although the weather was cold and snowy, it made for a very romantic weekend. I would definitely recommend the Squirrel's Nest to anyone wanting to find a cozy spot to re-charge while enjoying great hospitality, wonderful food, and a beautiful view. Thank you Inez and David - We'll be back!

We highly recommend this wonderful Bed and Breakfast, where we recently stayed for three nights! It's in a great location for exploring Burlington, which is a beautiful river city. The rooms are lovely, the atmosphere quiet and peaceful. The hosts, the Metzgers, are warm, welcoming, interesting people. The breakfasts are unbelievably good with a different, unique menu each day. This B & B sets the bar high for all others!

In our quest for the "perfect family puppy", my husband and I needed to spend one night in Burlington, IA. A simple internet search for B&B's in the area brought us to the Squirrel's Nest and the beginning of a perfect Burlington experience. Inez went out of her way to be certain that our stay with her was perfect. She contacted us in advance to ask about our breakfast choices. Her home is within walking distance of downtown Burlington and 5 different walking tours that we enjoyed. Everything described or pictured on her website is exactly what we found and experienced during our stay, including a fabulous view of the Mississippi River. Our morning began with this truly spectacular sunrise over the river followed by an amazing breakfast, artfully prepared and served by Inez. We both know that in addition to a bed for the night and breakfast for the morning, we now have a friend in Iowa. Our thanks to you, Inez. We hope to meet Dave on our next visit.
