“convenient place to stay”
Reviewed March 29, 2008

We went to Purdue for a campus visit. It was very convenient to just park the car and walk to the activities for prospective students. The hotel is reasonably priced and very nice. The free parking in the garage across the street as well as the "future boilermaker" package which gives you a free breakfast in the restaurant was great!! We stayed in a "family suite" which had 1 double bed and a twin in one room with another double bed in a smaller attached room. If visiting Purdue I don't know why you would want to stay any where else.

  • Liked — Location on campus of Purdue
  • Disliked — A long walk to our room which was at the end of the hallway.

If you're visiting Purdue for the first time, it pays to stay here at least once - but beware: Even though the place is very nice, and is spotlessly clean, with a calming low-key vibe and lovely staff -- if your bedding person - forget it!
The beds and linens have GOT TO GO! I thought I was sleeping on a granite slab, encased in like bounty paper towels! Granted, this is a historic public university not the Ritz - however - in this age of premium or upgraded bedding, even at places like Comfort Inns, too many people are now too accustomed to actually being truly comfortable in their hotel rooms when they travel - so encountering this motel-style 1970s bedding, right down to the coarse, ugly flowered "bed-spread" was just a bit of a culture shock. Otherwise the proximity to everything was great, and we loved the food court down below the Student Union. "Papy's" was great for breakfast. Ok, that's about it - Good luck at Purdue! - Go Boilermakers! (Next time we're trying the Hilton Garden Inn - a full report to follow . . . )

This is the place to stay for campus visits to Purdue University in West Lafayette and the complimentary parking across the street at the Grant Street garage is especially convenient. We have stayed several times here and all of the rooms we've been assigned have been updated. Included: all toiletries, hair dryer, coffee maker, multi-channel TV, internet access, air conditioning, and windows that open for a fresh evening breeze. Our room had attractive decor, upholstered chairs, desk, an iron/ironing board, storage cabinet with TV, & a clean well-lighted, updated bath. We've always stayed in the north wing.

There is a fitness room and laundry facility on the ground floor and the reception area provides a pleasant welcome. The hotel is connected to the Memorial Union with all of its services (restaurants, comfortable lounges, art gallery, internet access, TV lounge, bowling, billiards, game arcade, and don't miss the original Pappy's Sweet Shop for an ice cream treat or meal--there is a Starbucks there too. ) The University bookstore is right across the street and other restaurants are within close walking distance to the east.
The staff is friendly and helpful....and the best part is you're right on campus. The Lafayette Limo provides service right there at the front door to the Indy airport every 2 hours (cash only--$25 ea way or $45 RT at time of writing). The campus visitor's center is conveniently located up the street.
The hotel staff is always helpful and friendly and we've always enjoyed our stays.

Gave it three stars because of its location on campus. Came here for a campus event and was considering the Sheraton vs. the Union Club. Location trumped name brand because of the load we were having to carry for the event. The hotel room has a musty/moldy smell so I had to open the windows for a few hotels to try to air it out (lots of sneezing on my end). It's really just a place to sleep - nothing in the room that makes it a great experience. There was some mold in the bathtub tiles and the decor seemed like it was taking you back a few decades. One plus was the in-room fridge which came in handy. Otherwise, a decent stay for what it's worth, great location, and good value.

I wrote the first review and then stayed here again for two nights Sunday 18th & Monday 19th December 2005. The place was fantastic again. Now I have photos to include too. During Purdue's winter lull between semesters, it's low season and the Hotel staff give the rooms and carpets major overhauls. This must be their secret to keeping such an old place top notch, updated and fresh.
Parking accomodations for guests is nice in the garage across the street. The garage can get busy though and guests may have to park up high.
On the morning of the 20th, something melted in the laundry room caused the fire alarms to go off making it difficult to pack and checkout on time. The hotel staff was nice and gave us a couple more hours to checkout.
It was below freezing outside the whole time but the hotel was very comfortable on the inside. There's a Starbuck's coffee within the Memorial Union now.
