Great location on campus. Parking across the street. Internal access to the student union next door. Overall, can't beat the location. Rug in room was a bit worn. Wifi available. Clean. But ordinary and slightly spartan. Staff was very friendly.
The Union Club Hotel is located on the Purdue campus in the beautiful, academic-gothic, oak-paneled Memorial Union building. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, everything works. Other hotels could learn from them--accessible outlets near the beds (convenient for plugging in laptops) and a light switch next to the bed to turn off the room lights. The service is great. Easy walking distance to restaurants and to everything on campus. Have stayed here 4 times and will certainly stay again.
The Memorial Union is old, but has been updated. Rooms are small, but contain the essentials. Convenience is why we stay here and the really outstanding service from everyone you encounter. You can walk to everything on campus and in the shopping/restaurant area adjoining campus. They have a laundry room and a workout room. The best keep secret is the Sagamore Room, a full-service breakfast and lunch restaurant. Delicious, great service, and a relaxing atmosphere. You can also eat in the adjoining food court.
I stayed here on a recent trip for business. If you need to be anywhere near the Purdue campus this is the place to stay. The rooms are small, but comfortable. Everything is clean and the place is quiet. The staff is wonderful. Much better service than you would expect. The young lady at the front desk, I believe her name was Diana was very nice and helpful.
We stayed here in June 2011 on a visit to Purdue University for our son. We are proud to say that our son WILL be attending Purdue in the fall of 2012! So, we plan many more stays at this hotel. This is THE place to stay for Purdue University. We loved it---walk down the stairs and you are in the student areas such as eating establishments and even a bowling alley. Walk out the back door and you are in the center of the campus. Walk out the front door and down the street and you are in the town area. It is all about location....location....location! The public areas are very historic feeling and cozy.
Our room was comfortable and pleasant--nice, clean bathrooms. The price was reasonable.
Don't hesitate to stay here especially if you need to be on campus. We are headed back in June 2012 as well!
If you are visiting Purdue (and why else would you be here?) you can't beat the location. Free parking in the garage, lots of places to eat, actually on campus, across from one of the larger bookstores, etc. The worst part was the internet access: if you leave your computer or iPod for a few minutes, you had to log on again with the cryptic password. This turned out to be pretty darn annoying. The room could use an update - non-flat screen TV was fine, but getting to be dated. The desk was smallish. We ended up in a 1 bedroom suite with a bed in the bedroom: and 2 beds in the living room. This really made the room crowded, but I could see where it would be good for a roomful of people.
I saw an earlier review that talked about the long hallway and kind of laughed... but there is one way in and our room was on the 4th floor at the end of the longest hallway ever - and no entrance at the bottom of the stairs. In another weird twist, there is an obvious set of elevators right by the front desk - don't take those. You want the more hidden elevators... as the front desk girl said, "We should really put a sign there!" Yes, you should. The desk people were pretty friendly.
I usually stay at the Garden Inn about a mile away, and probably will keep doing that. Why aren't there more choices near campus?
