Known for his off beat stops through "flavortown USA", the Food Network's Guy Fieri eats his way through Diners, Drive-in's and Dives with an unabashed enthusiasm for America's most interesting and unique off the radar restaurants. Route 66 Diner (Triple XXX Family Restaurant) in West Lafayette, IN is modeled after the highway diners of the 40's and 50's with a lunch counter, "diner tables" and gas station memorabilia reminiscent of the day,
Fieri recommends the Barney Burger (1/4 lb. chopped sirloin, cheese and grilled onions) which several in our party found good but I have to say that Bob's pork BBQ sandwich made with their homemade sauce on a sesame bun would make me exit I65 for a food stop anytime. They also have "blue plate" specials like meatloaf and chicken with homemade biscuits and mash potatoes and the white chicken chili was good. A fun family place with an eager to please wait staff, homemade root beer (root beer floats were excellent) and the taste and flavor of the "mother road". Hey Guy! thanks for the tip!
