“An oasis in the middle of nowhere.............”

This beautiful hotel is about a mile outside of French Lick, Indiana (home of the Larry Bird of Boston Celtics fame). We drove there from Louisville,KY. When we arrive in French Lick, we began to wonder if we had made a wrong turn along the way. We arrived to find this beautiful hotel is such a desolate area (sorry,Larry). The West Baden hotel is famouse for its warm and therapeutic springs. Rooms are beautifully appointed and staff was gracious and friendly.
About a 1/4 mile away is the French Lick hotel and casino, with great restaurants.
Great spot for a romantic celebration.

Great place. lots to do between West baden and their sister property nearby.
They really need to highlight the $0.5 billion dollar renovation in 2007, its practically a brand new property.
We should have planned for a longer stay. The main entrance really does take your breath away. The whole property is well run and just magnificent. well worth the money.
Really enjoyed the restaurants, evening jazz, golf, fishing, pool, spa, wayne national forest, patoka lake, and the shops. casino area was also nice.
We hope to come back soon. Would be an awesome place to get together with friends or have an event.

You could just simply sit on the wraparound porch lined with giant ferns and rocking chairs or in the amazing soaring lobby or you can golf, spa, listen to jazz, ride horses, hike or gamble at the casino. Just returned from a great birthday weekend at West Baden and have no complaints. The staff was terrific starting & ending with Clarence at the bell stand. The lobby bar is great fun and the indoor and outdoor pools (except for the clanging door) were relaxing and just right for exercising or reading. For those of you who like to travel with pets, this is a great place. Sweetpea, our goldendoodle, was welcomed with a dog biscuit and water bowl in the driveway. When we checked in, she got a little goodie bag with a ball & treats. We even had a special door hanger that let the housekeepers know she was in the room. Except for the pool and dining areas, we could take her anywhere. She is quiet and well mannered and loved hanging out at the West Baden as much as we did. Also we really appreciated the free bottled water in the room and by the bell stand. Hate those hotels that charge $5 for a bottle of water. We are planning a return trip in September!

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the domed lobby are the best & some have little balconies. Amazing view.

We only toured this place, and did not stay, but my son has stayed overnight, and says the rooms are spectacular with rich antique furniture. Other reviews will tell you all you need to know, but I will reaffirm that the atrium is a fully rebuilt awe-inspiring work of art, the end result of a project costing many millions to complete. It's about 8 stories tall, and is under what was the nation's largest free standing dome until the Astrodome was built in Houston in 1965. As you enter, the view will make you pause to take in the ornate artwork and vastness. A woman was playing a harp when we arrived, but you really do not have to be elegant yourself to stay here. Jeans and tees are acceptable even in the restaurant, although you may feel like wearing somethhing nicer! Take a tour....we didn't, but walked past one in progress.....you will no doubt learn a lot of interesting facts. Photos of old times here and many old items found during the restoration will captivate you. Definately a photo op.....this is a rare treasure of a time once lost but now fully restored to glory. Well worth an hour or so to browse, and probably worth an overnight stay, although I suspect rooms start at about $300. Would have to verify that, though.

My husband and I stayed at West Baden for 3 nights and had a great time. The rooms are large and very comfortable. We were never disturbed at night and enjoyed a nice view of the pool.
The pool and spa facilities were excellent. We felt very pampered!
The Pete Dye golf course was out of this world! The views were incredible and the course was well worth the price. The food at the course was the best we had with reasonable prices.
The Donald Ross course was also great and Hagans is a great place to have lunch or dinner with reasonable prices.
We would go back in a heart beat!

Room Tip: I think it would be fun to have an interior balcony room next time!

We stayed at French Lick in 2009, and West Baden July 2012. Pay the extra for the inside room overlooking the atrium. Went this time for romance and relaxation; and both are in abundance.
Sit on a rocking chair on the Veranda at West Baden, 90+ degree day, the breeze blows, the music plays and you never want to get up. Is everything expansive? Not when you get what you pay for and we feel with did. Service was great, food was great and plentiful.

Room Tip: Inside room at West Baden. More kids at French Lick.

We stayed two nights and played golf at the Donald Ross and Pete Dye courses. The hotel is beautiful, the golf courses were the most beautiful (and difficult) we've played, and the customer service was consistently excellent.

Room Tip: Be sure you're at the West Baden Hotel, and on an inside room overlooking the atrium.
