“Nice trails and gardens”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

Beautiful wooded and garden area. Some of the plants looked like they needed a bit of love, but overall it was very nice. There is a great miniature train town located in the park as well, that is definitely something kids would love. There was obviously a lot of care and research put into the train display. There is a great shelter near a pond that would be wonderful for family gatherings or even an outdoor wedding. Plenty of nice easy trails, making it a great place to walk.

“Great Family Fun!”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

Nice, relaxing woodlands and educational too. Kids area near the parking lot is great for them. The Bluebird Trail (the longest one there) is 1.6 miles long and a pleasant walk. Inside the attraction building is a store with neat items for sale. But, the greatest attraction is the working trains outside, next to where the outdoor concerts are held. This is almost every grown man's idea of a model trainset! I could have spent hours there! Amazing! It's about the size of the exhibit at the Chicago Mueseum of Science and Indistry, but bigger, outdoor and operational! WAY too much fun!

“What a surpise”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Taltree Arboretum is one of those, out-of-the-way destinations if you are interested in native plantings, railroad history, dwarf conifers, model trains, bridge construction, and much more. We spent most of our time at the model railroad exhibit which combines many of the above elements. Extremely well done. This is an instance where some wealthy folks have decided to share their interests and their property. Highly recommended for individuals interested in any of the above subjects. Great for families.

“An amazing hidden gem just off route 30 in rural Valparaiso, this park is cozy and picturesque.”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We buy a family pass to Taltree every year because the trails are well tended, the flora and fauna are diverse, and the railroad garden is so child friendly. We often go here in the summer or on the weekends because the children simply adore seeing the trains. You can learn about the Civil War, early logging, and how important the rails were in early America. You don't need to love model trains to appreciate the way the train garden in kept up in all seasons. It is a perfect place to have a picnic and take an afternoon stroll!
